scp and filenames with weird characters
I've experienced some troubles using scp with remote files with spaces, amphersands or parantheses in their filenames on Linux hosts. This happens: stain at false:~$ scp "bender.linpro.no:blapp blapp" . scp: blapp: No such file or directory scp: blapp: No such file or directory stain at false:~$ scp "bender.linpro.no:blapp&blapp" . bash: blapp: command not found This might be abused, like this: stain at false:~$ scp "bender.linpro.no:blapp&a...

Poor performance with openldap 2.3.x (Berkeley DB 4.3 or 4.4) on XEN 3.0.x
Dear all, With or without /lib/tls librairies activated, A search in openldap is very slow on XEN 3.0.x . Cpus do nothing . 15000 entries are dumped in 2 minutes whereas same search without xen are dumped in 4 seconds (with far more activitie on CPUs) I have already see one or mail about this problem .  But I don''t see a solution , perhaps a threading problem between Berkeley DB and

Custom reports in puppet
Does any one know or whether have someone done custom reports in puppet. Which will show the status of the servers, disk, cpu, load, pkg list, configs/files edited via puppet, how often a config file is updated, etc.. -- Deepak _______________________________________________ Puppet-users mailing list Puppet-users@madstop.com https://mail.madstop.com/mailman/listinfo/puppet-users

monitoring classes
Greetings all, I''ve been searching high and low for any inkling of how people are monitoring classes for long term usage data. I''m thinking something along a script to collect the data for mrtg or perhaps even an snmp module that would present them as interfaces to be polled....has anyone done any work in this area? Traffic Control Diagnostic Graphing Utility
...er is passed to the script. If the option for a RRD database is used, graphs[3][4] are written to disk for each ten second polling interval. If invoked via Munin[2], it handles graphing and samples at five minute intervals. getaddrinfo: Name or service not known
Hi. When running "puppetd --server <puppetmaster> --waitforcert 50 --test" on a puppet client we get the following error: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in `initialize'': getaddrinfo: Name or service not known (SocketError) from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in `open'' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in `connect''

Is there a web-based server status package?
I have a small squirrelmail server using Postfix & Dovecot, and I would like to add a web-based "status" screen to remotely check its health. Is there a preferred packaged for doing this? I mostly want to monitor disk space usage, and CPU utilization.

disabling showmount -e behaviour
I must admit that this question originates in the context of Sun''s Storage 7210 product, which impose additional restrictions on the kind of knobs I can turn. But here''s the question: suppose I have an installation where ZFS is the storage for user home directories. Since I need quotas, each directory gets to be its own filesystem. Since I also need these homes to be accessible

compression at zfs filesystem creation
Hi, I just installed 2009.06 and found that compression isn''t enabled by default when filesystems are created. Does is make sense to have an RFE open for this? (I''ll open one tonight if need be.) We keep telling people to turn on compression. Are there any situations where turning on compression doesn''t make sense, like rpool/swap? what about rpool/dump? Thanks, ~~sa

improve meta data performance
We have a SunFire X4500 running Solaris 10U5 which does about 5-8k nfs ops of which about 90% are meta data. In hind sight it would have been significantly better to use a mirrored configuration but we opted for 4 x (9+2) raidz2 at the time. We can not take the downtime necessary to change the zpool configuration. We need to improve the meta data performance with little to no money. Does anyone

cpu load monitoring
Hi, I have a server running Centos 5.2 and am implementing a GIS mapserver app. I have some sample logs from another implementation that give me an idea of bandwidth requirements but I would like to check the cpu load. I can not be at the server during the test and am interested in knowing if there is logging of cpu load available. Anyone have experience with this? Recommendations? Dave --

Enlarge ext3 Logical Volume (Filesystem) in a volume group (LVM)
Anybody know a way to enlarge a filesystem ext3 without having to unmounted it, when they are still space left in the volume group (when using LVM) ? I will be running large production linux system running Oracle. I can't stop the database everytime I have to enlarge a filesystem. We can do it with all others filesystems (JFS, REISERSFS and XFS) when they are created in a volume group. Why

Confusion regarding ''zfs send''
I''m playing around with snv_128 on one of my systems, and trying to see what kinda of benefits enabling dedup will give me. The standard practice for reprocessing data that''s already stored to add compression and now dedup seems to be a send / receive pipe similar to: zfs send -R <old fs>@snap | zfs recv -d <new fs> However, according to the man page,

rollbacks
Has anyone done rollbacks with puppet? The story goes that last night I pushed a change out, which intentionally changed the way certain services where managed. The change involved pushing out a few files, cronjobs, etc., which was okay until it was discovered there was a bug with the service. My configurations are kept in subversion and rolling back to a previous configuration would have

Accidentally added disk instead of attaching
Hi, I wanted to add a disk to the tank pool to create a mirror. I accidentally used zpool add ? instead of zpool attach ? and now the disk is added. Is there a way to remove the disk without loosing data? Or maybe change it to mirror? Thanks, Martijn -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
