[Nouveau] [Bug 99396] New: Crash in nouveau_dri.so when switching apps with alt-tab in Gnome
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99396 Bug ID: 99396 Summary: Crash in nouveau_dri.so when switching apps with alt-tab in Gnome Product: Mesa Version: git Hardware: Other OS: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Drivers/DRI/nouveau Assignee: nouveau at lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: afn2 at cornell.edu QA Contact: nouveau at lists.freedesktop.org Originally filed as a bug against Gnome (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=777183) but they directed me here. Intermittently, gnome-shell will crash with SIGSEGV when switching apps with alt-tab. See stack trace below. Generally when this occurs, I'm running Firefox and Chromium, each with several windows open, and gnome-terminal. I'm not certain, but it seems to only happen when I mouse over the app switcher. I'm running gnome-shell 3.22.2+18+gdf7727a-1 on Arch. Please let me know what other information I can gather! I'll update the bug if I can come up with a reproducible way to trigger the crash. [Nouveau] [Bug 99396] Crash in nouveau_dri.so when switching apps with alt-tab in Gnome
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99396 --- Comment #1 from afn2 at cornell.edu --- I've managed to reproduce the crash fairly consistently by doing the following: 1. Open two Firefox windows on one virtual desktop 2. Open a gnome-terminal window on another desktop 3. Repeatedly alt-tab between Firefox and gnome-terminal. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the QA Contact for the bug. [Nouveau] [Bug 99396] Crash in nouveau_dri.so when switching apps with alt-tab in Gnome
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99396 --- Comment #2 from afn2 at cornell.edu --- FYI, I've managed to reproduce this bug with both mesa 13.0.3 as well as the current HEAD of master (180653c357d19ca88f7895f59874a58fac99cc53). I've also reproduced it with various versions of the kernel (most recently, 4.9.4 and 4.10-rc4). This only happens with nouveau + mesa, not with the proprietary nvidia driver, which leads me to believe that the bug is most likely in mesa and not in gnome. I'm happy to dig deep into this but I'd appreciate some pointers on where to look. Thanks! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Nouveau] [Bug 99396] Crash in nouveau_dri.so when switching apps with alt-tab in Gnome
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99396 --- Comment #3 from Ilia Mirkin <imirkin at alum.mit.edu> --- A backtrace would be a good start (with symbols, obviously). Also, make a mention of which GPU you're using. Lastly, I'm not sure if gnome-shell has jumped on the "let's use GL from multiple threads" bandwagon, but if so, that's just plain broken on nouveau for now - no point in trying to debug further. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the QA Contact for the bug. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99396 --- Comment #4 from afn2 at cornell.edu --- Thanks for the reply, Ilia. The video card is a GeForce 750M (GK107) in a mid-2014 MacBook Pro Retina. I rebuilt the library without stripping symbols and then reproduced the crash. Here's an updated stack trace.
