XP share not listed in Linneighborhood
I am unable to find my Windows XP share (winpro) in Linneighborhood which runs on my desktop Kubuntu Linux box. When I try to mount that Windows XP share I get the error message: 2139: session request to WINPRO failed (Not listening on called name) 2139: session request to *SMBSERVER failed (Not listening on called name) SMB connection failed smbmt: Error: winpro...

Disappearing Shares?
I am new to Linux and running SuSE V8.0 with KDE desktop and Samba 2.2.7 on a small bnetwor5k which also has a Windows NT PC and a notebook. On the Linux PC's I have used LinNeighborhood to mount the various shares and can readily view files on the Linux PC's, or on the windoze machines. I have had a number of occasions where I have had to power down my main Linux PC, and far more often the windoze PC (which is also presently my gateway to the net via ADSL). My problem is...

How to mount NT share & maintain NT share permission via SMB for LTSP user??
...on Linux server and NT domain (as administrator and domain user respectively) and passwords are synchronized properly. Samba participates in domain security and that aspect of the situation is, I believe, just fine. 1) When root is logged onto the Linx server and mounts the NT private drive via LinNeighborhood with jmc credentials then everything works as desired for jmc when logged on via LTSP terminal. That makes sense but jmc isn't going to have access to a root session. 2) When jmc is logged to the server (directly or via LTSP) he can scan the NT file print server (via LinNeighborhood) but can...

Can't reach Samba shares from Win XP Pro
This seems to be common enough problem. I've used a variety of methods (command line as well as utilities like LinNeighborhood) to mount XP shares on my RedHat 8.0 running Samba 2.2.7. I get consistent problems the other way around. Despite a couple of shares on my Linux partition, I am just unable to do get to it. Network Neighborhood shows my Linux/Samba server but no shares, nor can I explicitly map the share to a...

Losing share connections?
I seem to have Samba working generally (for a Linux newbie). I am using SuSE 8.0 & Samba 2.2.3a and have a small network. Presently my main PC runs NT4.0 sp6a. Using LinNeighborhood I can browse the NT PC from a linux PC, and have mounted the drives OK. In LinNeighborhood I set a preference to memorise mounted shares, remount on the startup. What puzzles me is that after a period of inactivity, most often overnight, but also during the day after an hour or two. I lose thes...

Samba help
...9;m trying to get my mandrake 9.2 to run a samba server that will allow my two windows 2003 computers to access shares on it. i do not have a domain controller, just a small home network with a few routers. i am having alot of trouble getting the samba server to work correctly. First, when i use LinNeighborhood, i can see all my other windows computers on my network. When i open Network Places on my windows 2003 computers, i cannot see my mandrake machine shares. however, if i go to Entire Network/Microsoft Windows Network i see my workgroup name (MSHOME) but i also see an additional workgroup named MDK...

Problem with "include=smb.%U.conf"
...6) as well as in various Linux distributions like Mandrake 10 and 10.1 and the latest Debian, if I log in as User 1, I cannot see the shares that correspond to User 1. The only shares I can see through the Mac Finder or through the Mac "Connect to Server" or through the Linux Smb4k or LinNeighborhood are those defined in the general "/etc/samba/smb.conf" file. If there is no way around this situation, is there another way to define shares so that only specific users will see them when they browse for shares that are available? I have hundreds of shares each of which are restricte...

Browsing between linux boxes
...he first one appears to work well. The second one, though, is problematic. It is possible to mount the share and write to the directory, but I cannot umount. I get the error that the device or resource is busy. The share disappears from the mount point, but it still shows in either smb4k or LinNeighborhood as being mounted, and any further attempt to mount it reports that it is already mounted. The 'force group' line has been added because the logs showed that david, for instance was accessing as david:david, and I wondered if the group was part of the problem. /Public was initiall anne:...

Samba 3.0. Is nmblookup broken?....
Hi all, I installed Samba 3.0 a week or two ago and I'm finding out that some things that used to work with 2.2.8a don't work in 3.0. LinNeighborhood used to work with just a setting of "-" in the "Preferences" -> "Scan Preferences" -> "Workgroup" box. Now, with 3.0 I must have a "Primary master browser" set, (the name of the primary master browser). I liked it better the other way becaus...

Okay I am confused
...rs. Even though I have no printers. How do I turn off the printers. Also. My biggest challenege and state of confusion. I am setting up 22 laptops, dual booted with W2K and Redhat Linux. I want to make the Linux porition of the boxes work just like the Windows. I am going to try and download LinNeighborhood and see what the deal is. But, when people boot up their red hat box, and get to the run level 5 login screen... Can I make the user name and password they enter there authenticate with my W2K AD DC? Just like a Linux box? So that when I change their password or disable their account throught t...

Beginner feeling a little better now
Hi Samba Mailing list Many thanks for the help as I had problems with my first Linux session and couldn't get the Linux box on to the Windows network. I seem to have managed to get things working by adding "netbios name = webserver" to the config file. Then creating and adding a password to a user account using "smbpasswd -a NEWUSER" The original config (delivered with

WinXP Home problem with Samba
...guest only = yes The problem is that the other 2 machines (smbserver and wolf) can see the WinXP Home machine (andrea) in a browsing window but cannot connect to it nor see its shared folders. "andrea" does not have a firewall. All machines happily ping back and forth. Here is a LinNeighborhood log while attempting to see "andrea" shares from "smbserver": GetSMBShare:smbclient -L ANDREA -U% -W HOME -d3 Sharename Type Comment --------- ---- ------- Error returning browse list: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED Server...

Sigh....ok once more with feeling
The firewall didnt help matters. I think its FUBAR and I need to reformat anyways, so ill reformat and reinstall and put fresh SAMBA up, on Mandrake 9.0. The system has 2 NICs and NET_MASQ shares internet to the XP machine. Therein it acts as a DHCP server and has a firewall. I will open 139 from the start next time.

Slow browsing windows shares from linux/samba
...) on the 190.190.1.0 network. On the linuxbox I have a collection of files that I want to access via the Windows PCs. This works fine, even fast (thanks to socket options). But now, if I want to browse the Windows PCs from Linux it takes ages to do so. I can get the listing of available shares via Linneighborhood real quick. Mounting works flawlessy. Then I open the mountpoint and it takes between 30secs to 4 minutes to open the share and display its contents. I noticed that if I am very fast and have a filebrowser ready, that after mounting the share I can browse at realtime speed for about 2 secs. After t...
