bge drivers does not work for 3COM 3C996-SX / 3C996B-T
...In particular, connecting a 4.8-REL machine to a 5.1-REL machine leads to some interesting situations: I can do simple pings across the link, but ssh fails, and heavy pings crash the 4.8 machine. Similarly changing the interface configuration with ifconfig tends to crash the 4.8 machine (mtu, link0, up/down, etc). The behaviour is somewhat hard to diagnose, since there's no panic - just a hard lock. The 4.8-R machine: $ uname -a FreeBSD quadric.dsl.isometry.net 4.8-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE #0: Sun Apr 6 19:46:37 UTC 2003 root@quadric.dsl.isometry.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/QUADRIC...

I have some questions about what needs tuned on a high traffic syslog box. I seem to be dropping quite a few syslog packets. This is a syslog server for a high usage Firewall btw. Assistance in tracking a kernel/nouveau error
Greetings, I am resending this as it doesn't appear in the archives and no one responded...maybe it got routed to /dev/null or something :-) I have asked this question the Scientific Linux mailing list (a few months ago) and got the suggestion I talk to the kernel guys. I pinged a kernel guy I know, and his suggestion was to ask the Nouveau list. So here I am. :-) I have had my work laptop

serious networking (em) performance (ggate and NFS) problem
Dear best guys, I really love 5.3 in many ways but here're some unbelievable transfer rates, after I went out and bought a pair of Intel GigaBit Ethernet Cards to solve my performance problem (*laugh*): (In short, see *** below) Tests were done with two Intel GigaBit Ethernet cards (82547EI, 32bit PCI Desktop adapter MT) connected directly without a switch/hub and "device
