On linBox I've more than 1 network interface, but I've denied access on smb.conf to all but 192.168.32. and 192.168.31. . hosts allow =...

I can't get multiple interfaces to work
I've looked through all the doc and searched the list archives, but I just can't seem to get it to work. I have a Linux box with 5 ethernet interfaces, 3 of which have winboxes I'd like to include in my little Samba network. I'm able to get it far enough for each winbox to see the linbox, but they can't see each other. Here's my setup: Winboxes Linbox Win2k - 172.16.2.2/24 (WINS=172.16.2.1) <---> 172.16.2.1/24 (eth2) Win98 - 172.16.3.2/24 (WINS=172.16.3.1) <---> 172.16.3.1/24 (eth3) Win98 - 172.16.4.2/24 (WINS=172.16.4.1) <---> 172.16.4.1/24 (et...

linux_set_kernel_oplock: Refused oplock on file. F_SETLEASE semantic problem ?
...ctl 0x400 op seems to be F_SETLEASE. Is there a problem between the version of kernel I use and how SAMBA use F_SETLEASE ? Is there a way to resolve this problem ? Should I recompile SAMBA with specific options to fix this problem ? Sieve Vacation

Samba 3.0alpha problems with w2k
...ct to this box leads to an error. Windows-Boxes (all W2k) tell me that the linux-box is visible but not connectable, while the linux-box itself complains about zero returned byte at the connection request. This is all true for using an existing Domain-User for the authentication (smbclient -L //linbox -U<valid W2k-User>. Using anonymous login succesfully shows me all available shares (smbclient -L //linbox -U%). So there seems to be something wrong with the user authentication. If i stop the winbind daemon every user-share is visible and usable (including the necessary authentication a...

Fw: Hostname problem
Thanx, I've tried to use a LMHOSTS file using : nmbd -H /ets/LMHOSTS -D and changed the name resolve order to : name resolve order = wins lmhosts bcast I've also forced the Netbios name to linbox (in LMHOSTS and smb.conf) but it still says that s098 is not recognised ! So, I don't know what to do :( As someone mentioned, it would be fine to be able to disable DNS lookup (which is useless since I use a LMHOSTS file)... Otherwise, if anybody can tell me how to have the regular nslookup...

Re: Samba VFS CAP, hope some help
'/' is one of illegal filename characters on Windows. So a filename containing '/' is always mangled regardless of your character settings (including CAP settings). This behavior comes from limitation of Windows filesystems and by design. From: Adam C?cile <adam.cecile@linbox.com> Subject: Re: Samba VFS CAP, hope some help Date: Fri, 08 Jun 2007 11:43:19 +0200 Hi, I tried to create a file containing / through netatalk. It works fine and the '/' is replaced by :2f on the filesystem. My samba charsets settings are not set, I tried different settings but it di...

files on shared ntfs-disk in linux-pc are not accessible
...them. Copying files from the ntfs-disk to my windows-box will result in corrupted files. This problem only applies to the ntfs-share. All the other (ReiserFS) shares work fine! So I tried to mount the ntfs-share on the server-machine itself: mount -t smbfs -o username=christoph, password=passwd //linbox/toffi /mnt/test The ntfs-disk then gets mounted to /mnt/test and i can browse and list folders as much as I like but when I try to open a file with less, I get an error message: smb_request: result -5, setting invalid I did all this as root. As the files are okay and the problem does not seem...

Yum update corrupted something badly - can only get access through SSH terminal or Webmin
Hey there - This morning I ran the yum updater through Webmin as I do every month or so - after about two hours I realized that I still had the same updating screen going - and no response. Seemed strange. Simple attempts to kill it didn't work so I sent a command to reboot the system - that seemed to work, till I turned on the monitor directly connected to the server - I saw this

...pipermail/samba/ Hi all, I've set up samba 2.2.0-alpha3 on my Linux box, and I set up a share, /home/baruch. I set security=user, and encryption on. I also ran smbpasswd for the user baruch. I also have a Windoze 2000 box. I went to map a network drive on the winbox to /home/baruch on the linbox. It then asked for a username and password. If I give it any username except 'baruch', I get a message saying the user isn't valid, which is correct. However, if I give it the username 'baruch', then no matter what password I give it, the drive gets mapped. Can anyone take...
