RFC: Improving license & patent issues in the LLVM community
...tart with: In just about every country in the world, anyone
contributing on behalf of their company are exercising their employers
copyright (in most cases, even if they do it in their "spare time", since
most people misunderstand what the law grants them there).
The license says:
"Licensor" shall mean the copyright owner or entity authorized by the
copyright owner that is granting the License.
It then uses licensor as the granter.
For example:
The copyright owner of work i do for Google is not owned by me, it's owned
Google. Thus, *Google* is the licensor, as defined by t...

ZFS and Linux
Hello,
I believe that ZFS and it''s concepts is truly revolutionary to the
point that I no longer see any OS as modern if it does not have
comparable storage functionality. Therefore I think that file
system/disk manager with similar qualities should be written for Linux.
Does Sun have plans to dual license ZFS as GPL so it can be ported to
native Linux?
If not, is it legal to write

I can't possibly speak for them, ask them if you really want to know.
Notice, that this is an additional licensing scheme where the licensor
claims that you must obtain rights to distribute/broadcast in this
format. This is yet again independent of the encoder and independent of
recording industry fees.

iLBC support in Asterisk after Google's acquisition of GIPS

As part of the process of determining what had broken here, we also
became aware that the ilbcfreeware.org website no longer offers the iLBC
license agreement it used to offer; this agreement was required by the
iLBC licensors (GIPS) in order for users to safely distribute and use
iLBC (and this is why the Asterisk project does not include the iLBC
source code directly with Asterisk). The removal of this license

no mp3s with ices2!? an other way?
Hi:
My understanding was that the ices 0.x app was still being maintained. If
it doesn't work with icecast2, and I've not personally tried it, then
there's some problem with either ices 0.x or icecast2 and it needs to be
fixed. icecast2 should also accept shoutcast-style MP3 streams as well,
and again if this doesn't work, it's a bug that needs fixing.
I don't see a lot

Libvirt daemon is not getting started
Hi,
Earlier I was having libvirt-0.7.5 but now I have installed 0.9.8 version
of libvirt now.
I am trying to start libvirt daemon using the command below but daemon it
is not getting started and the PID file is not getting created. Tried
/usr/loval/sbin/libvirtd -d option too. In that case I am not getting any
error but PID file is not getting created in this case too.

question about use MP3s with LAME on Icecast
Hi.
Is it possible (legally) to stream MP3s on Icecast that have been encoded
with LAME encoder (http://lame.sourceforge.net/license.txt)?
So if a composer writes a track, then saves in MP3 with LAME, and wants to
distribute with Icecast server, is it legal?
Must he get license for MP3 (http://mp3licensing.com/royalty/emd.html) and
pay any royalties for MP3 DISTRIBUTING or STREAMING as it stated

also shows that Ogg is steadily gaining legitimacy.
2.4 Ogg Vorbis Decoder Chip
Fresh off the mailing list, here is yet another piece of evidence that
Ogg Vorbis is gaining acceptance. FineArch, Inc., have [9]announced
that they have completed an Ogg Vorbis decoder chip. Licensors only
need to add a few components such as flash memory and a DAC to turn it
into a portable Ogg Vorbis player. Of course, since this chip was just
announced today, there are no players that use this chip yet, but this
is still an exciting development.

Licensing question.
Greetings
I have found next paragraph in Licence file(source root)
"Digium, Inc. (formerly Linux Support Services) holds copyright
and/or sufficient licenses to all components of the Asterisk
package, and therefore can grant, at its sole discretion, the ability
for companies, individuals, or organizations to create proprietary or
Open Source (even if not GPL) modules which may be dynamically

Oracle and ZFS
Hi All ;
One of our customer is suffered from FS being corrupted after an unattanded
shutdonw due to power problem.
They want to switch to ZFS.
>From what I read on, ZFS will most probably not be corrupted from the same
event. But I am not sure how will Oracle be affected from a sudden power
outage when placed over ZFS ?
Any comments ?

Red Hat CEO: Go Ahead, Copy Our Software
http://www.businessinsider.com/red-hat-ceo-go-ahead-copy-our-software-2013-8
Title says is all. Nice to know RH understands and accepts the
relationship between CentOS and RHEL.
Although it is complex. After all, if too many choose CentOS, there
may no longer be a CentOS. However, I don't think I would refer to
CentOS as a "parasite" as the author Matt Asay does. More appropriate

[PATCH 0/2] Move ocaml-augeas copy to libguestfs repo
ocaml-augeas is used only by virtlibguestfs, so move it to this
repository, instead of having it around in the common submodule.
The removal from common will happen later.
Pino Toscano (2):
Bundle the ocaml-augeas library for use by libguestfs
build: switch embedded copy of ocaml-augeas
.gitignore | 1 +

[PATCH 0/9] tools: remove or disable old/useless/unused/unmainted stuff
depends on "autoconf: regenerate configure scripts with 4.4 version"
This series removes some of the really old deadwood from the tools build
and makes some other things which are on their way out configurable at
build time with a default depending on how far down the slope I judge
them to be.
