wbinfo works, getent doesn't
Hi All, I have an NT 4 domain with multiple samba servers. One of my samba fileservers stopped allowing domain login requests. While it can enumerate the domain users with wbinfo -u, and the domain groups with wbinfo -g, getent passwd does not list the domain users. All the other servers in the domain are fine. Any suggestions for how to track down this error? Sincerely, Donald

Samba Team? - "ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not fou n d"
...connection to the winbind daemon with "getent passwd". This lists all the Unix users, as well as the Windows users being translated by winbind. The Windows users can be identified by the prepending of the domain name in front of their user name. If that fails, then there is a problem with libnss_winbindd.so, /etc/nsswitch.conf, or symlinks from the lib directory to wherever the library is stored. Also remember to run ldconfig (does Solaris have an equivalent?) to get the library into the cache. Test this with "ldconfig -p | grep winbind". It sounds as though you have NSS configured right...

Samba 3.0.7 & OpenLDAP performance problem
hi, sorry if this topic already exists, but i haven't found a solution yet. I am using a Samba PDC with OpenLDAP. After updating my Samba 2.2.7 to version 3.0.7, I encountered the following problem : All my Windows-clients are able to logon to the Domain but it takes several minutes until the Client finally is logged on. If I try to open a directory that is stored on the server, it takes

I've recompiled samba 2.2.3a and still any time I do a ls -l in a directory where there are files from a PC I get the error : ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not found If I shut off winbind or take winbind out for my /etc/nsswitch.conf file, I can get a directory listing and it lists the users ID that winbind assigned to

winbind on Solaris 2.5.1 not working.
...has failed miserably. Winbindd starts but fails to create the /tmp/.winbindd/pipe file and bombs like a daisycutter. But if I run winbindd like this " truss -aefo /tmp/file winbindd &" it creates the /tmp/.winbindd/pipe and runs but fails to authenticate. I think this could be the libnss_winbindd.so file failing but not sure. Without running winbindd in truss it fails with a broken pipe imediatly after attempting to connect on port 445 in the log.winbindd. I really need some help with this and please dont tell me to upgrade to a newer version of solaris as this is a constraint established...

Sharing to domain users?
...L,DON (HP-USA,ex1) [mailto:don_mccall@hp.com] Sent: Thursday, February 14, 2002 10:49 AM To: 'Thomas, Daniel J.'; MCCALL,DON (HP-USA,ex1) Subject: RE: [Samba] Winbind - Why won't you authenticate??? Hi Daniel, Does Solaris have a getpwnam or getpwent command, that you can see if your libnss_winbindd.so is actually getting the job done? Or perhaps getent passwd - if that comes back with windows users in domain+username form, then nss is working for you... The log you sent me indicates that the AUTHENTICATION to the pdc is working, but when samba does a getpwnam it is failing to find the user...
