winbind - getent passwd
...k was having trouble with
'getent passwd' not returning the Windows domain users as well as the local
users. 'wbinfo -u' worked but not 'getent passwd'.
I just finished a new server and had the same problem. Turns out I
overlooked the the symbolic links in /lib. The file libnss_winbind.so needs
to have a link to libnss_winbind.so.2 :
-rwxr-xr-x 16224 Feb 6 21:01 /lib/libnss_winbind.so
lrwxrwxrwx 17 Nov 21 15:05 /lib/libnss_winbind.so.2 -> libnss_winbind.so

Make domain users/groups available locally through Winbind
...t wbinfo
-u/-g was working properly but getent, id and so on commands no.
The new DC is samba 4.1.7 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64.
After digging for a while (the other DC was working properly and the
difference was that was running on a 32 bit machine) I found that when
running `id` command with strace libnss_winbind.so.2 was not found.
Seems that (at least on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server) that search path for
that lib is
open("/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/tls/x86_64/libnss_winbind.so.2", O_RDONLY|
O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

winbind - samba4
Hi,
I am using centos 6.3 and did the migration from samba3 to Samba4. More the
"getent passwd" does not return users.
I made the link:
ln-s /usr/local/samba/lib/libnss_winbind.so.2 / lib/libnss_winbind.so
ln-s /lib/libnss_winbind.so /lib/libnss_winbind.so.2
And change in /etc/nsswitch:
passwd: files winbind
shadow: files
group: files winbind
When I run the command:
/usr/local/samba/bin/wbinfo-u
Returns correctly.
Can anyone help me.

Winbind/RH7.1...Help
Hi All:
I followed all the instructions for activating winbind and it went thru
but my getent etc are only showing users on the linux box. The only
thing i'm not sure if i did correctly was to create the symbolic link
for libnss_winbind.so.2
Anyone got winbind working on RH7.1?
Thanx

Samba 3.0.28a under Solaris 8 + libnss_winbind.so problem?
Hi i compiled Samba 3.0.28a under Solaris 8 (sparc). Everything seems to be
fine except the libnss_winbind.so.
i copied it to /usr/lib and linked it to:
libnss_winbind.so.1
libnss_winbind.so.2
nss_winbind.so.1
nss_winbind.so.1
now when i use: id user nothing happens. group user is the same
wbinfo -t / -g / -u all work fine. So it must be something with the nss I
guess?

Trying to get uid and gid to match and getent to work

The problem was first noticed when we connected to another member server and noticed that all of the usernames and groups were different.

getent group return only local users
Hello
I use S4 file server with nsswitch.conf (ad server is another Linux with
S4) :
passwd: compat winbind
group: compat winbind
I wonder how it can be possible that :
* getent passwd is ok
* but getent group returns only local users (wbinfo -g is ok and
gives domain user)
Any idea ?

libpam-krb5 was not installed. (I installed it.)
Restarted
However, "getnet passwd SAMDOM\username" still returns blank.

FreeBSD and Winbind
...roups moved to the Samba machine. When I run
getent, only information from the local passwd and group files is
displayed. Which leads me to believe this is an nsswitch problem.
To be more specific I think I have made a mistake copying the libraries to
the proper location. I was not able to find libnss_winbind.so in
/usr/samba/source/nsswitch. Instead, I found nss_winbind.so. Is this the
correct file to copy? And, where should these files be copied to on
FreeBSD? From what I have read so far, I am guessing these should be
copied to /usr/lib.
I have run ldconfig and it shows (using -r) libnss_winbind...

Good afternoon people. Wiki'm following procedure:
RHEL based OSIf you have compiled Samba yourself on a RHEL based OS, to have your domain users and groups available locally on your Domain Member, you need to place two links in your /lib64 folder:# ln -s /usr/local/samba/lib/libnss_winbind.so /lib64# ln -s /lib64/libnss_winbind.so /lib64/libnss_winbind.so.2# ldconfig

Created them, and restarted samba-ad-dc.service but so far the output of

Help! Solaris 8 + winbindd
Hi.
Does anyone have samba 2.2.2 on Solaris 8 working with winbindd?
I have samba 2.2.2 installed and configured --with-winbind and have the
winbindd daemon running but the following does not work:
1. "getent passwd" Solaris command on returns local users (no Domain users)
2. winbindd authentication to the PDC is not occurring.
3. local users cannot change password since I modified the

samba4 - where is libnss_winbind.so?
I compiled Samba4 with these instructions:
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO
I would like to use Winbind according to this description (so that I can
use getent passwd to enumerate users):
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/Winbind
Unfortunately, I don't find libnss_winbind.so anywhere.
In fact, I don't find any \*winbind\*so file anywhere in compiled Samba4
sources.
What should I do to use Winbind with Samba4?

CentOS Samba as Domain Member
Hello,
I use CentOS 6.5 and smbd 3.6.9-167.el6_5.
I can successfully execute wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g, but getent passwd doesn't work.
nsswitch.conf
passwd: files winbind
shadow: files
group: files winbind
I read in samba manual I have to link libnss_winbind.so to /lib, I did that but it doesn't work anyway:
ls -ltr /lib/lib*
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 28 14. Feb 12:34 /lib/libnss_winbind.so -> /usr/lib64/libnss_winbind.so
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 26 14. Feb 12:38 /lib/libnss_files.so -> /usr/lib64/libnss_files.so
