I am trying to compile Samba 4.9.1, on Ubuntu 18.04.1 server. However, when I try to configure, it says that jansson is not found. Trying to install asterisk 13 on CentOS 6. I went back and re-installed on a clean VM of Ubuntu Server 16.04.3 and built Samba 4.7.4 with default configuration and it works just fine to change expired passwords at login. I should have tested this default configuration a while back. I was trying to use MIT Kerberos instead of Hemidal and had followed all the directions on this link:

I have the Asterisk book, it's enormous, the 4th edition as per http://www.asteriskdocs.org/. I'd like to do something like: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+quickstart just to have two hardphones act as extensions and call each other. Is that a reasonable first task?
