Ext3 and 3ware RAID5
...sults are representative of several different configs of hardware and software RAID options. Any ideas as to what leads to ext3's performance hit? I've tested *lots* of configurations. It's not the md layer -- 1 card setups see the same performance hit. Thanks. -- Joshua Baker-LePain Department of Biomedical Engineering Duke University

3ware 9650 issues
...s well as the whole system. I'm running the latest firmware and drivers from 3ware. Have other folks had good luck with this card? What sorts of configs are you running? I'm in the position of needing more storage, and I'm a bit gun shy on 3ware at the moment... -- Joshua Baker-LePain QB3 Shared Cluster Sysadmin UCSF

Running firefox on a remote host on centos-4
...ns reporting via http only to the localhost, so this was a handy feature for me. Is there any official way to get it back? If not, I guess I'll have to hack a 'localfirefox' script that doesn't do the nasty mozilla-xremote-client trick. Ah, progress... *sigh* -- Joshua Baker-LePain Department of Biomedical Engineering Duke University

ipw3945 wireless not working
This is a new Centos 5.1 install on a HP nc2400 (that use to run XP). Completely clean install; blew away the XP partitions... After applying all the updates, and configuring for the rpmforge repo, I used yumex to install dkms and the dkms-ipw3945, ipw3945-firmware, and ipw3945d rpms. lsmod|grep ipw shows: ipw3945 180391 1 ieeee80211 33417 1 ipw3945 and dmesg)grep

SuperMicro X7DBE with CentOS4?
I am planning to build a server based on the SuperMicro X7DBE+-O motherboard. This server will have two dual-core Xeon processors and a 3ware 9550SX raid card. Has anyone built a server based on this motherboard? Are there any issues with the smp/dual-core support in CentOS4 that might cause problems? I appreciate any input. I'm just looking to find out about any possible problems before

How to create a huge file system - 3-4TB?
We have a server with about 6x750Gb SATA drives setup on a hardware RAID controller. We created hardware RAID 5 on these 6x750GB HDDs. The effective size after RAID 5 implementation is 3.4TB. This server we want to use it as a data backup server. Here is the problem we are stuck with, when we use fdisk -l, we can see the drive specs and its size as 3.4TB. But when we want to create two different

Pause after network initialization

My new hack is to put 'mount -a -t nfs' in /etc/rc.local. Any other suggestions? -- Joshua Baker-LePain Department of Biomedical Engineering Duke University

RAID6 in production?
...fuzzy feeling. The one caveat is that not all the members of my array were the same size -- one disk is 180GB while all the rest are 160GB. I'm going to test overnight with identically sized RAID members, but I also wanted to see if anyone else is using RAID6. Module loading order during install

3ware disk failure -> hang
...in the kernel. I *did* have to upgrade mdadm to 1.12.0, as the stock version doesn't support stacked arrays. 3dmd is running. Any ideas as to what I can do to prevent this in the future? Having the system hang every time a disk dies is, well, less than optimal. Thanks. -- Joshua Baker-LePain Department of Biomedical Engineering Duke University
