Licensing
Afternoon all. I was discussing the current licensing of Xapian and how it influences the way we work with someone at another OSS project recently, and although the upshot is likely to be that they'll amend their license (it's a corporate foundation, and GPL compatibility is something they desire for precisely this reason), it did prompt me to think about how we're tracking where we

Hello, As mentioned on the project ideas page, Adding more support for stemmer algorithm, i found an implementation of Krovetz Stemmer Algo in C++ but before working on it to merge it into xapian, i needed help in recognizing the license information associated with the source code. To avoid further licensing issues kindly someone check the link

Question about italics in legendg() - plotrix
Hi Nicole, plotrix is intended to be modular, that is, it builds plots step by step. This makes it easier to understand code that you haven't written or haven't seen for a while. Here is an example showing how to change the font using par(): library(plotrix) plot(0,type="n",xlim=c(0,1),ylim=c(-1,0)) par(font=3) legendg(0.115,-0.055,legend=c("Pan

Outbound calls through Broadvoice
Hi all, a noob here, I am trying to get outbound calls through asterisk working with Broadvoice. I have consulted the following two online tutorials: http://www.broadvoice.com/support_install_asterisk.html http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+settings+Broadvoice in an effort to make outbound calls. My current settings are as follows: sip.conf register =>

It was twenty years ago today...
Xapian has turned 20! Strictly speaking it was 20 years ago last month but I managed to miss the true anniversary - the oldest commit in the Xapian repo is: commit 8ced76ea128c8fb2792477e09b41fa989f2e572f Author: Richard Boulton <richard at tartarus.org> Date: Fri Sep 10 09:50:40 1999 +0000 Martins initial code, which didn't work for him but did for me. Back then Richard,

Table of contents
I'm using Markdown in an app and would like to provide support for including a table of contents. Any suggestions for a syntax? Has anyone done this before? My first thoughts are: 1. Have a special header item (using markdown extra's header syntax), e.g. generate-contents: yes 2. Have a special xml tag with optional alternative text inside, e.g. <contents> 1. First thingy 2.

PHP bindings now work for Windows
Hi all, Just to say we've now got the PHP bindings working on Windows (committed to SVN-HEAD). It's not a particularly painless process, but it is possible. Thanks to Daniel Menard for his support of this project. Cheers Charlie Lemur

Job in (or near) Cambridge, UK
Just a quick note to let the list know that Lemur Consulting are looking for a Python programmer to work with them on Xapian, and some open source projects built on top of Xapian. If you're interested, more details are at: http://www.lemurconsulting.com/Hiring.shtml It's short term to begin with, but you never know! There will need to be a fair bit of face-to-face work to begin with,

Packaged Xapian Python 2.5 Bindings for Windows
Hi! Just to mention, I have built the Xapian python bindings on Windows with the Lemur Consulting makefiles, and packaged them up in a distutils executable. If anyone is interested, they are available here, in a nice easy to install format: http://www.raptorized.com/?page_id=136 I've only built them for Python 2.5 so far, but I'll try to package them for 2.4 as well when I get home

ruby xapian bindings and windows
Hi, I've compiled xapian 1.0.9 (core and buildings) on Windows Xp, using Lemur's nmake files[1]. I'm trying to use acts_as_xapian [2] on RubyOnRails, but I'm facing a problem with the rebuild index process. in acts_as_xapian, to rebuild the index, a new Xapian::WritableDatabase is created with a different path, then flush() is invoked; lastly, the new path is renamed to the old

Xapian.org design
Hi guys We were talking a little while ago about putting together some content to provide more examples of operations for first-time users. One of the other thoughts that's come up is about the design of the Xapian site; we've a bit of spare designer capacity at work and were wondering if we could do you a jazz-ed up site design (for free) and wondered if this'd be something the

Kernel.require behavior
Is it correct that Kernel.require returns (1) true if the file was successfully required (and wasn''t already loaded), (2) false if it was successfully required (but was already loaded), or (3) throws a LoadError if it couldn''t be successfully required. I claim that the rdoc is misleading and should be corrected as it says:

Distinctive ring detection not detecting ring cadences
I'm using Asterisk 1.4.5 (will try 1.4.6 on Thursday, but I don't see anything in the changelog after the 1.4.5 release dealing with distinctive ring), zaptel 1.4.3, and wanpipe 2.3.4-10 with a Sangoma A200 card. I enabled usedistinctiveringdetection in zapata.conf. However, on the Asterisk console, the output I get is: -- Detected ring pattern: 0,0,0 It would appear that Asterisk is

Can't get xapian-core 1.05 to build under windows xp
Here is the output I get from nmake. I am not a guru at getting C programs to build under windows, I never had any troubles I could not solve on OSX :-( I am using the released sources, I have Visual Studio 2005, I have the make files from lemur. I read ALL the readme.txt file before starting. And this is what I get. C:\Documents and Settings\jroberson\My Documents\DOWNLOADS\xapian-

Xapian pubmeet
Hi all, A few of us have been discussing whether we should have a Xapian social gathering of some kind. The current idea is meeting up in a pub in London some time in autumn for drinks and food. However all of this really depends on who might be able to come! It would be a chance to meet other Xapian enthusiasts in an informal social setting and talk about all things search-related (and
