bug in ldbtools?
Hi all, if one by accident points the ldbsearch command to any file, which is not a ldb file, this file is silently converted to a tdb file ;-) . root at dc0:~# file /tmp/t2.ldif /tmp/t2.ldif: ASCII text root at dc0:~# ldbsearch -H /tmp/t2.ldif # returned 0 records # 0 entries # 0 referrals root at dc0:~# file /tmp/t2.ldif /tmp/t2.ldif: TDB database version 6, little-endian hash size 10000

ERROR:connection refused after provision
Hello, I'm installing Samba4 AD from repo Ubuntu16.04. These are the steps I've applied: 1. editing fstab in EXT3 2. install dependencies ( acl attr quota fam libnet-ldap-perl ) 3. install krb5-user, bind9, ntp, winbind, ldbtools and samba. 4. remove smb.conf, if exists 5. samba-tool provision 6. Restart services bind9, ntp and samba 7. config Bind9 (add 'include' in /etc/bind/named.conf.local ) 8. set permissions to bind9 9. set nameserver in resolv.conf 10. edit apparmor profile...

There is some info on the wiki about using ldbtools and they function very similarly to ldap-utils (ldapsearch etc) and there is loads of info on the net. Rowland

Unable to transfer ForestDns/DomainDNS
...returns a referral instead of the records. On my purely stock samba domain it works fine, so something about the windows 2003 ad? But if I open ASDIEDIT and connect to DC=DomainDnsZones,DC=fisherthompson,DC=local on the windows 2003 DC I see everything like I should..... It seems like samba and ldbtools isn't following the referrals. Or they shouldn't be referrals? Or something else that I have no idea about! Any other suggestions? Thanks! Synchronization problems between Win2k8R2 and samba
Hello, I have a small test network with a Win2k8R2 DC. I've added a samba4 as second DC in this network. The join seems to run smoothly. But, after the join, this command: ldapsearch -LLL -x -H ldapi://%2Fvar%2Flib%2Fsamba%2Fprivate%2Fldap_priv%2Fldapi -b "dc=test,dc=dom" "(SAMAccountName=Administrateur)" returns some strange results: ? some attributes like unicodePwd

Help win10 join
...- Retrieve the time on a server. user - User management. For more help on a specific subcommand, please type: samba-tool <subcommand> (-h|--help) You can also do most of these things from Windows. You can use the ldaptools (ldapsearch etc) against the database, but Samba comes with ldbtools which work in much the same way. I think however, you may be concerned about extending the schema for things like email, all of this is possible. So, next question ? Rowland

python scripting samba
Can someone point me to some documentation on scripting samba user and group management from python? I'd much rather not do this via calls out to samba-tool, and if I could do this remotely (via LDAP like calls) I'd be even happier. Cheers, Geoff
