net sam provision
Hello everybody,
I am currently trying to set up a Samba PDC with OpenLDAP.
I am trying to do this with Ldapsam_Editposix (got it from http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix ) instead of the smbldap-tools.
I followed the instructions and everything is set fine. I imported the base structure from the given ldif (edited it to my domain), but when I try to let the command "net sam provision" create...

Ldapsam Editposix & idmap help required
Hi, I am more or less following this tutorial Ldapsam Editposix =
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix but can't quite get my
domain to work.
I think the issue is with the idmap part of the smb.conf but can't quite
figure out what's wrong with it or what the correct format should be.
My SMB.CONF file....

idmap LDAP branch never populates with Samba 3.4.1 - how do I debug ?
I've followed the instructions at
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix
which concerns how to setup idmap correctly with Samba > 3.0.25. I have
a trusted domain which has been successfully established. However, no
SID entries populate beneath ou=idmap and any logon to the trusted
domain will result in:

Samba with OpenLDAP (not a DC)
Hi,
I'm trying to setup a samba server on Ubuntu 16.04 following the docs[1]
on the samba wiki.
I have my users in OpenLDAP, along with their Posix attributes.
They can ssh/sftp to the Linux server and have valid *nix GIDs/UIDs.
I've added the 'passdb backend' and 'ldap suffix' lines into my
smb.conf[2] however I'm getting errors[3] in smb.log that the ldap

"net sam provision" and samba 3.4.0
Dear list,
i had some problems with "net sam provision" using samba 3.4.0
I followed the instructions described on http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix and those published by iX 4-6/2008 (www.ix.de)
but the result of "net sam provision" was always :
# bin/net sam provision

Only administrator works in ldapsam:editposix domain
I tried setting up a samba/ldap domain using the ldapsam:editposix
feature, using the brief instructions at
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix.
Everything goes rather smoothly, and I can add XP machines and log
into them as the Administrative user.
I added a user to the server, then to samba/ldap using smbpasswd -a newuser
ldapsearch -x shows the user & encrypted password, so I figure I'm good to go.
When log in with my new (no...

Ldapsam:editposix: How to continue once it's setup
Hi to everybody,
I managed to setup ldapsam:editposix for Debian Lenny
as described here:
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix
and had the impression that in order to add a Samba Unix client, it
would be best to continue here:
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html
However, in the ldapsam:editposix tutorial, the Administrator is
mentioned instead of root (judging from what I've read so far,...

Account Administrator works for "net rpc info", but not for "net rpc join"
Hi,
I'm using Samba 3.2.5 in conjunction with kernel 2.6.26-2-686-bigmem
(Debian Lenny) and recognized that when setting up ldapsam:editposix
in accordance with
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix
it turns out that
net rpc info -U Administrator
on Linux box works as expected, whereas
net rpc join -U Administrator
yields NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
In the server log (file <ip-address-of-server>.log) I see

Thank you for the link. I will check it out. It looks closer

Did you run smbpasswd -w <ldap-password> ?
You also need more ldap lines in smb.conf and have you added the
samba.schema to ldap ?
You could try reading this:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix
Having said that, there isn't that much difference between
Your standalone server with ldap and an NT4-style PDC and I wouldn't
set up a new one of either. There are numerous problems against the use
of either, coupled with the fact that it is just easier to set up a new
Samba AD DC.

What is the current status and future?

confusion about using samba as NT4 PDC with ldapsam backend
Hello,
I want to use samba v3.3.x to implement an NT4/Win2k style domain:
a samba PDC and a samba BDC, using ldapsam for the 'passdb backend'. I plan
to use RedHat Directory Server v8.2 as the ldap server.
I'm trying to sort out how user/group management and nss will work.
I'm confused about how/when the samba-supplied ldap schema is used (I mean
the schema that's in the

You also don't have any of the smbldap-tools lines, but you do have
'ldapsam:trusted = yes ', on a PDC you are expected to also have
'ldapsam:editposix=yes' (or so I believe), see here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix
You either have to use smbldap-tools (which now appears to finally dead)
or ldapsam:editposix, only problem with this is that smbpasswd doesn't
seem to work, it creates the user in ldap and then segfaults when trying
to add the password.
I have spent all weekend trying to make ldapsam:edit...
