911 and lawsuits
Just curious if any of the Asterisk installers are doing anything special
to protect themselves from a possible lawsuit caused by 911 failure
during a Asterisk/computer crash?
I realize that any traditional PBX or even a phone line can fail but,
anything running on a computer is probably going to be less reliable
than most PBXs.

YAML inconsistencies...
I figured I''d post here before submitting a ticket, but I''m seeing some
confusing stuff when dealing with YAML now. I was using it to freeze
objects in my database, and so i had some data already around to mess with.
I upgraded both Ruby (1.8.3 -> 1.8.4) and Rails ( -> 1.1RC1) and this junk
started. I''ve outlined the problem in two pastes, which I''ll

Here's my question: Is R vulnerable in any way to the
sorts of lawsuits that SCO is bringing against the
Linux community?
Thanks in advance,

Another concern I have on this front is that it seems like some updates require
an asterisk restart rather than just issueing a reload command from the *
console. This that correct, or I am just not running the system correctly? For
instance it seems like I couldn't get zapata....

Is there a way to reload a module from the console, so that we could

I see that bareos is, actually, the descendent of bacula. I've been
looking at some of the documentation, and searching, but one thing I'd
like to find out, before I try to implement it, and that I haven't found
yet: am I going to have to play games, to get it to back up to online

Fax-to-Email - Legal Issues
Hello everyone,
Some months ago there were news about J2 filing lawsuits against companies
using fax-to-email technology, as they claimed it was their patent. They had
also won some cases, until someone filed a counter lawsuit against them
based some other grounds but again related to fax-to-email.
Anybody knows what is latest in this regard? Can now fax-to-email be us...

Verizon-Vonage Lawsuit
May be slightly off topic, but I was wondering what everyone thinks of this
latest ruling against Vonage? Does anyone really know what Verizon hold
patents for, and could those patents possible affect anything in Asterisk?
Who knows who Verizon will go after next.

therefore we would like to ask you how you see the risks for the
emergence of such a situation. More specifically:
- Do you know of any patents that might be used against a Speex-based
product? I assume that Speex is not violating any patents but regarding
to US patent lawsuits everything is possible, the judges/jurys have
litttle technical insight.
- Are there any products on the market, selling in large quantities,
that incorporate Speex?

It's not original, and we don't want any logo/trademark lawsuits from
Intel.

I found this on CrossValidated:
"A medical statistician once told me, that they use SAS because if
they make mistakes due to software bugs and it comes to lawsuits, SAS
will recompensate them. R comes without warranty."

i think that if a distribution with MS WOS XP and 7 look and feel based on Gnome and Ubuntu or debian is released a lot of people would migrate.
People is comdortable with what they know, even Gnome is easy to use, they like Control panel, Documents and Settings and Start vuttons from MS WOS.

Sprint Nextel sueing over VoIP patents
Sprint Nextel is sueing vonage, voiceglo and theglobe.com for infringing
on VoIP patents. Sprint Nextel claims to have about 100 patents on VoIP
technologies. Does anyone know which ones this article is talking
about, and if so does asterisk have any of those features?
The reason I am asking is that the article is vague, Vonage uses a
fairly standard codec set, I dont know about the others.

btrfs questions..
Hello !
I'm very interested in btrfs development and I have general questions about it.
Please accept my apologizes if they are dumb as I'm new to this area,
and I just want to learn..
1. Like the btrfs name implies (b-trees fs..) I guess that it works basically
like WAFL (and ZFS), is that right ?
2. Are there any big differences between btrfs-wafl-zfs or only small ones ?
3. NetApp
