How do I read a text (.csv) file to match a matrix/cross tab? (Object confusion??)
I'm having a problem reading data to set control totals for a dataframe. I want to adjust a dataframe based on a 2-d table of values, which I get by using : > CurrentX1Sums <- as.matrix(xtabs(~tripid_nu+lineon, data=SurveyData)) > CurrentX2Sums <- apply(CurrentX1Sums, 1, sum) I've created a .csv file with new (target) sums that looks like this: tripid_nu Warner

smbpasswd file NFS sharable?
If I want to make two servers use the same encrypted passwords can I share the smbpasswd file via NFS? Will updates/locking work correctly? Is there an alternative? Any way to prevent mapped drives?
Is there any way to prevent users from mapping drive letters to Samba shares? We are constantly getting user problems like: "I can't find my files on my F: drive. Please restore it". They expect us to know where their F: drive was mapped. We try to show users how to use UNCs and shortcuts, but I would like to prevent mapped drives. There is another reason to prevent them:

Trying to "expand" some data - Newbie needs help
I want to calculate "expansion factors" for elements in my dataframe based on a 2-d cross classification. Since I'll have "missing values" (many combinations will have no record) I'll need a second "expansion factor" for each "row". I've included my "work to date" below, but I'm not very close to getting this right. My

Why are these different?
I want to import some "target values" to normalize elements of a dataframe. I'm summarizing the existing totals using as.matrix(xtabs(~tripid_nu+lineon, data=SurveyData)) and reading a .csv table of target values. I can't even get them to list out as similar data items. My idea is to do something like this, but I don't know how to do it in R

net command replacements for smbldap-tools

Hi- I am running Samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8. Our Windows team has upgraded Windows 2003 servers Active Directory to Windows 2008. Samba is not working now. Testing for strength of fit using R
Dear all, I am trying to validate a model by comparing simulated output values against observed values. I have produced a simple X-y scatter plot with a 1:1 line, so that the closer the points fall to this line, the better the 'fit' between the modelled data and the observation data. I am now attempting to quantify the strength of this fit by using a statistical test in R. I am no

Running Under Windows
Hello, I write a commercial marine navigation and tidal current prediction application for Windows 3.1 (compiled with Borland c++ 3.1). I am considering releasing this or a variant of this under something like Linux. My goal is to continue to develop bells and whistles but to share the load with others. No particular commercial goals. In order to get recreational sailboat racers to use it I

Converting root ext3 to ext2?
Can anyone comment on whether or not it is possible to successfully disable the journal of an ext3 root file system prior to reboot? My application is to try and make sure there is no journal prior to installing and rebooting into a system which does not support ext3. I know that as long as the root is cleanly remounted r/o with no journal updates pending, this will be compatible. I'm

Log analysis tools
Does anyone have any log analysis tools? I'm currently configured with "log file = /usr/local/samba/var/log.%m", which makes identifying issues with any one client easy, but doesn't provide me with an overall picture of what has been happening. What I'd like to be able to produce is a report showing, for a given unit time, the total number of clients that have connected,

Can't do Landscape with ManualFeed
Hi: I am haviong problems with Landscape mode on our HP printers (many models). I am running 2.2.7a on two different servers. One is using the "old style" printing (using "printer driver file" parameter). The other is using the newer printing system. It is the same code on both. Both are Solaris systems. For the old one, the drivers are installed on the client, for the

rsync : old file dates generating error during nfs rsync session: Value Too large for defined data type
I was troubleshooting a problem we were having with some files not rsyncing properly over an nfs mount (the destination device is a snapserver (NAS) that did not have native ability to receive streaming rsync info, that's why we were doing this rsync over an NFS connection to the snapserver). Anyway, at first I thought this was just one of the quirks of the snapserver (it isn't

Won't %L work anymore?
I am trying to run multiple instances of samba on the same unix host. This is being done so that I can functionally breakdown the usage into, for example, a "finance" server and an "engineering" server. This is not based upon the client or the user, but based upon the virtual server. My first attempts were a real problem in that, though the config file could be specified on

Can't print duplex
I am trying to switch over to the new "style" of printing, but when I do, I loose the ability to print duplex. I have two servers. The old one (spike) is setup as a file server, etc. and the print services date back to the early 2.0 days. It is currently running 2.2.2 with the original printer setup. The printing works ok with this server. People can print using features of the
