Win7 x64 postscript printer -> samba print Apple Laserwriter not available
Hi folks.
I've got a system where my WinXP (they still work well) workstations have a
virtual printer installed on them.
This virtual printer uses Apple Colour Laserwriter Postscript drivers to
generate PS files which are then printed to a linux server where Samba passes
the file to one of my scripts which then parses the file, extracts data,
coverts the PS to PDF and then inserts the

name_query failed: Samba 2.0.3
I'm stumped on getting Samba to work again on our small network. I've
got one Windows 95 machine that started to refuse to talk to Samba last
week. I *was* running one of the 1.9.18 releases, but when it stopped
working, I figured I would delete the old release and do a clean
install of 2.0.3. I've done that, and used SWAT to configure the
smb.conf file (which can be seen below).

Custom Print Command
I'm trying to setup my public printers to do 4 pages per sheet, and am
having nothing but problems making it work.
The system is a Redhat 4.2 box running Samba 1.9.18p4, and the
printers are postscript capable HP 4000 and 8000 machines.
Using Redhat's printtool to set 4 page per sheet output works when
printing via lpr, but as soon as I print from a Win95 box through
samba, it's

Printing from NT4 public=no
Hello,
Im using samba samba-1.9.18p4 on solaris 2.6.
Every works fine with Win95. (browsing, file service printing)
With NT file service and browsing are OK.
I was wondering if its possible to print from Windows NT4 SP3
samba print services with the option
public=no
The printing fail silently on the NT machines.
I was hoping to have a 'network password' dialog box

OT? PDF printer driver for automatic deployment
Hi,
I've got a printing server running Samba 3.0alpha21 (on Linux). The
client machines running Windows 2000 are producing PDF files by printing
to a "virtual" printer on the Samba machine. The printer driver shall be
installed from the Samba server on demand. I need color output, b/w is
not sufficient.
Everything works fine, i.e. the PDF conversion process and the automatic

Appletalk printing through Samba
Hi,
I've really tried a lot of things but can't work it out....
I've got a Apple Laserwriter 630 working through appletalk/netatalk. Using
lp/lpr I'm able to print, no problem.
However, when using samba through Windows ME, the printer will print my
pages but also throws out an additional blank page and a page with:

Concurrent logon problem...
Hi you all,
We are currently setting up a corporate wide file server using Samba
2.0.6 on a RedHat Linux Alpha platform. We only have Win98 clients, and
the Samba server is doing net logons (no password encryption) and master
browsing for the workgroup. The problem we have is that NMDB dies when a
logon occurs with a username which is already logged. After that, Win98
freezes when you try to log

HOWTO Create a PDF Writer in samba
Hi all,
Thought I'd post this to the list as I found a better way of doing
it. Nice to have for posterity.
Please include it in the source of samba if you wish - I hereby license
it under GPL
1. install ghostscript (most distributions include it anyway)
2. put the following in the file /usr/sbin/pdfprint and make it executable
by whatever your guest user for samba is :
#!/bin/bash

Specifically, the files generated *will* work in:

on a SPARCprinter
The error message on the SPARCprinter was

roaming profiles ok, but what about the printers?
Hi there,
We have a little intranetwork with Samba 3.0.x as PDC. There are 20
Win2k-clients in several rooms and 18 users roaming from one machine to
another (according to their tasks). So any user has a roaming profile.
This runs almost perfect (some minor problems are still there, but the
the advantages are overwelming).
But there is one thing, I can't understand. Why does Win2k saves
