CentOS 7 not installable using KVM-over-IP System
Hi,
I just tried to install CentOS 7 using a Lantronix Spider KVM-over-IP
System and its virtual media feature and to my surprise this did not work.
The installation using the netinstall iso seems to work for a while (I
see some dracut boot messages) but when the first stage of the boot is
finished I get dropped into an emergency shell with the error m...

Affordable KVM over IP switch
Hello,
Are there any KVM over IP switches that are not thousands of dollars?
Ideally a 3-4 port switch for a few hundred seems reasonable to me.

Finally, my question:
Is there a way to force sshd (on the server machine) to send
SSH_MSG_CHANNEL_CLOSE and terminate the session immediately?

Debugging (possible) Xen-related hang-issues without the possibility of attaching serial console to capture Xen output
Hey all!
I''m currently in the process of trying to debug a (possibly!)
Xen-related issue (with Kernel 3.2.9-vanilla as Dom0, and Xen 4.1.2
[almost] vanilla, except for a patch for CVE-2012-0029), where a system
freezes without me being able to ascertain a triggering event. The
system console is completely unresponsive in the event of hangs (i.e.,
displays motd and the login prompt,

CentOS serial questions (Hyperterminal equiv and connecting to server via Hyperterminal)
I have two serial-related questions
(1) What is the CentOS (or *nix) equivalent of Hyperterminal in Windows?
Sometimes I'm on a CentOS box and need to, say, console into a Cisco or
something.
and
(2) I have a CentOS server that I may need to transport somewhere and will
most likely *not* want to carry around the monitor. Where should I look in
connecting to my server via a serial

upgrade of 32bit to 64 bit CentOS 5.7
Hi List,
Early in dec I was forced to upgrade one of my server systems -
initially built in 2004 on an intel server mb it finally failed.
Under some time pressure, I replaced the mb etc with a 64 bit asus
system and did a repair of the linux system upon reboot with a 64 bit DVD.
As one can imagine there were some headaches as the kernel was now 64
bit, but yum and friends were still 32 bit.

Grub configuration from within Windows
My friend uses a typical dual-boot setup (Windows XP and Centos 5.3).
The machine is online 24/7 and he often uses it from a remote location
(Linux via ssh -X, Windows via rdesktop).
The problem is that he wants to be able to remotely configure which of
these two OSes is to be the default on next reboot, so he can switch
from one OS to the other and back remotely. If Linux is up, he just
needs to

Design changes are done in Fedora
...y do from that point forward. (Routers, print servers, media streamers?)
New general purpose OSes do more things than their predecessor did. Their scope is always changing. (Widening, usually, but occasionally old functionality does get chopped off.)
If all you need is a print server, go buy a Lantronix box and be done with it.
If you need the power of CentOS, you?re probably not actually doing the same thing with it year after year.
Just to keep with the print server example, I know there?s been a lot of change in *my* world with printing in the past 10-20 years.
The change from parallel to US...

low end file server with h/w RAID - recommendations
I just put a call into AT&T Office 365 asking them to explain the spoof warning thing...
To answer your question....
At the moment, no I can't. I like HPE stuff, we bought a DL380 gen9 say five months ago and totally happy with it. In fairness, its running Server 2012 r2 too but I didn't run into the hardware gotchas I did on the other stuff. It just seems HPE skimped on their lower

building a phone
Hi folks
A common wisdom here is that one should use a proper hardware phone
rather that an extra software on the user's PC. Why is that such a big
issue?
One thing that bothers me with the current crop of hardware SIP phones
is that they are hopelessly properitary.
So what would it take to build a fully-adaptable phone?
Here are some of my thoughts. This is not anything I plan to do soon
