That I didn't do, but I do know about a 3com universal Undi Ndis driver.
I don't think that it is freely available (but since it seems to be
discontinued, you might get a hold of it somewhere)
That one can be used together with LanManger- or MS-Client to "mount" a
SMB Network-share. Performance will rather be bad, and as I said, I
never tried to get the driver or even get it to work...
I'd say that transferring the Image via TFTP (done automatically by
PXELINUX) is the easiest approach.

problems with oplocks = false in 2.0 beta version
Hi Everybody,
I seem to still be having problems with the caching of files on the
PC. I have tried to set the oplocks = false variable in the smb.conf

Howdy all:
For those who are curious (eg, Peter de Groot
<pdgtech@wantree.com.au>) here are the (I think) relevant posts
from recent samba digests concerning win98 and or NT performance
problems copying files between local drives and samba shares. It
looks like there should be some new options to play with in the
next samba release. Could Jeremy or Andrew confirm?

There is a bug in the Microsoft LanManger implementation which
mismaps
long filenames for 16-bit applications - thus 16-bit apps run
from
long path names on networked shares will often fail. Try sharing
the
apps from the same pathname on a Win95 client and running them
under
NT - I suspect the same thing will happen. Workaround: don...
