EFS crypted files and smbclient.
...not crypted on the backup server is not a problem. Right now, I get a smbclient timeout after 20000 msec and tranfert is aborted, thus the backup fails. At least, is there a way to report a permission denied for the crypted files and continue with other files? thanks for any tips. -- Olivier LAHAYE Motorola Labs IT manager Saclay, FRANCE

[PROVENANCE INTERNET] Re: Missing packages in centos8 mirrors or do I miss something?
...d that those drops were not advertised before release so developers could think about migrating there code. That would have helped me a lot if I had knew that docbook-utils-pdf would be dropped....I would have searched for an alternative long ago. Olivier. ?Le 26/09/2019 16:02, ? Missing packages in centos8 mirrors or do I miss something?
...any more that I can find on https://koji.mbox.centos.org/koji/builds Where am I wrong? PS: I?m running CentOS-8 in docker (roboxes/centos8 wainting for official centos:8 container). (I think that my issue is not related to the container though as I can?t find packages on mirror repos. -- Olivier LAHAYE

CentOS-8 QEMU guest won't bring virtio_net interface up.
...but nothing triggers the module load (virtio_net) * After doing modprobe virtio_net, the interface is named eth0 (it seems that it doesn?t follow the modern network device naming scheme) Before reporting a bug, I want to make sure that I?m not missing something. Centos8.1 Plymouthd crash 913: ply_event_loop_watch_for_timeout: Assertion `seconds > 0.0' failed.
...? More likely a plymouth bug or an udev missing rule or something else? (full dmesg and strace log in bug reports) Thanks a lot for any tips. PS: looking at google results, the only things I can find are very old bugs without resolution (not fixed and obsoleted due to new OS release) -- Olivier LAHAYE

OwnCloud vs NextCloud
...ability to upgrade from multiple major versions. Once this is available I'm sure that we'll see an up to date version of nextcloud in EPEL. For now, you need to hack. My work was based on this: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/scren/nextcloud/builds/ My source RPM: http://olivier.lahaye1.free.fr/SRPMS/nextcloud-17.0.2-1.el7.src.rpm You can build it using rpmbuild --rebuild nextcloud-17.0.2-1.el7.src.rpm Keep in mind that you have to upgrade manually in /usr all previous major version up to v16 and do all the database update before upgrading to the generated rpms. upgrading from CentOS 7 to 8
Your answer has nothing to do with the original question which is related to upgrade method and not condition for reinstalling without loosing data. Sometimes you need to keep your configuration and want to avoid reconfiguring everything, and reimaging your computer keeping /home is not an option. Of course having all user files on a separate filesystem helps when reimaging the OS (that what I do
