Oplocks - samba 2.2.4 & Windows 2000 server
...are 2.2.4 on Solaris 2.6. I am concerned because this means excess data traffic and lost opportunity for performance boost. Is there something on the Windows side I need to do? controlling STARTTLS by IP address

I'm not sure what the confusion or concern is. The intention is to use non-plaintext (but technically not encrypted) authentication without TLS over ham frequencies. Hashed challenge/response

Estimating backup usage with dir-merge filter
I use --filter='dir-merge .backup-filter" to allow my users to designate portions of their home directories that should be excluded from my rsync-based backup system. I'm looking for a way to periodically generate a report that shows the amount of backup space being used by each user. I've tinkered with writing my own script that processes any filter files into --exclude

Replication sieve scripts.
Hello, Are you sure about that I would need so recent version? That is ok to have some bugfixes but you are talking about the latest cutting edge debian jessie backports package. Even the mainline debian jessie only have 2.2.13 in it and my system is a complex wheezy installation, the last thing I want to do is to move all my components into jessie just because of this or do you know

Roaming profiles problem - loading failure
...any hints as to what to do? I am contemplating upgrading to 2.2.6 - but the WHATSNEW gives no hint that this might be a fixed problem. Samba PDC shared applications and a default start menu profile
I have a network of Windows XP desktops, and a Samba PDC server, in an ideal world i'd like to have single installations of applications on a samba shared device, and also if possible a default start menu profile with the applications already added... is such a setup possible? Right now I'm using roaming profiles... (I think?) If it's possible could some smb.conf examples or urls

list free space via rsyncd ?
Hello, if you have a backup server with rsync running in daemon mode - is there a way for a client to obtain information about free diskspace via rsync ? I searched through all the docs, but could not find anything about it. if there is no way, i guess implementing it would need the rsync protocol to be changed/extended !? regards roland

Rsync and RAID storage specifications
Hello, I am going to use Rsync over millions of files, with --link-dest option. So huge read activity at the beginning of each backup, and huge hard links creation activity. Of course I will use a RAID array on receiver side, dedicated to Rsync. Do you have any recommandation over RAID type, number of disks and chunk size to use ? Thank you very much ! Ben

General IMAP question
My server is a limited space mailserver set up to filter spam. Most of it's mail is passed on ot an exchange server so it is not stored locally. I have a handful of pop accounts that are stored locally. For years I've used mbox type mailboxes that I'm familiar with and can access on the server when needed using the old mailx program. They use a variety of clinets, typically Outlook
