joing machines "Kristyan Osborne"
Hi, I have the same error message as Kristyan Osborne's original post. What
I did was I removed the machine account from smbpasswd and passwd and
created same account names, joined the domain again and somehow it worked
again. I am running Samba 2.2.5 and I was wondering if this could be a bug.
Regards,
Dominic

Samba 2.2.3a and password expiration?
One of my users complained that his Win2kSP2 complains that his password
Is going to expire in 8 days.
A while ago we changed from Win2k domain to a Samba 2.2.3a controlled domain.
How do I disable the password expiration? I read the man pages and searched
Google but couldn't find any hints about the issue. It almos seems like this
expiration thing should not be happening at all...?

Folder Redirection with NT4 Domains
Hi,
I'd like to hear off-list from anyone who is currently successfully using
folder redirection with an NT4 domain controller.
If you are doing this, please would help me to understand your secret.
There are two ways I know of that should work, however I have received
feedback from separate sources that claim problems with both of these
methods.
I would like to include in the new book

hosts allow
So far, so good with 1.9.18p1 on HPUX 10.20 (kudos to the Samba team!).
However, I've got a question....
I'd like to be able to restrict access to some of our services, and can
certainly do so with the "hosts allow = " entry in smb.conf - it does
exactly what I want. But... I plan on bringing Samba up on a few campus
hosts, some of which have more extensive listings of PCs I

Problems with Default user profiles.
All,
I currently have a problem where the default user profile is not being picked up - Windows simply ingores it and creates one based on local settings.
I understand samba supports default user profiles, and one can be put into the profiles share like this:
/export/profiles/Default User/
This directory contains a copy of a working profile from a proper user.
The relevant smb.conf sections

smaba 3.0 - domain groups : OS info
...other user including domain admins can not. This would indicate that there is a problem with samba, either with ACLs accessing group information or passing group/user information from the system to a smbd process owned by a user other than root.
Still no closer to an answer

Samba-3.0.1pre1 and LDAP
...CPU usage on slapd is anywhere between 10%-80%. At one point to day everything came to a grinding halt. The only difference between I can think of is the samba upgrade. This is with an average load of about 300 users.
Can anyone think why samba is causing slapd to max out??

2GB Limit
...on smbfs.
What is the deal with the 2GB limit. I have a NT box do a backup though windows backup to a samba share (samba 2.2.5 on SUSE 7.1 kernel 2.4.18). When it gets to 2GB it stops and won't go any further.
Is this a problem with samba, windows or the kernel??.

Hello there!
I am really frustrated. I try to get samba printer share to work since
like 4 days now. No luck yet.
Here is my problem:
Windows 2000 can connect to a shared printer, but when it comes to
printing I fail.
Is samba able to print with cups? (I installed the printer with cups and
there it works great.)
How can i find out which print command I need to use?

installing printer in a logon script
Hello,
I have Samba 3 PDC and win2k sp4 client.
I would like to install printer on a machine globally, for all users.
To do this, I use:
net use X: \\server\unattended /user:domain\unattended password
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /q /y /ga /in /n \\server\HP2000C
First line is mounting share (Administrator is not logged to the
domain), and the second line is to install printer.

Daylight saving
Hello there,
I have a samba PDC 3.0.0 running ok, but I had turned on the option "Time
Server" in smb.conf, to synchronize the workstations time with server. But
the workstations synchronize 1 hour less than it is. I think that the
workstations isn?t considering the daylight saving time.
I?m using the command: net time \\server /set /yes
Thank?s,
