why username for winbind authentication
This is more a theoretical question, but why is it necessary to provide a username & password for non-anonymous winbindd connections? Why isn't it possible to use the account & password of the computer account? Isn't that what enables a WinNT/Win2k client to resolve SID's to names when I am in the local user manager for example? Just curious, Ingmar.

Winbind + machine account

Then I start "winbindd -d 10 -i" in a terminal window Then I issue "wbinfo -u" and voila, all the users are being listed. Then I issue "wb...

winbindd + wbinfo -> NT_STATUS_CANT_ACCESS_DOMAIN_INFO
I still can't get winbindd working properly even though I am making some progress here. I retrieved the latest CVS version last night and now I can finally use non-anonymous connections - that works very well. I *did* update both of the pam modules in /lib and /lib/security winbindd runs under the account of a regular domain user "wbinfo -u" shows me all users and "getent

Winbind + machine account + non-anonymous access (RestrictAnonymous)
Hi everybody, my (our) goal here is to setup a samba server in a NT domain (and eventually in a Win2k domain - but for now I just want to test it on NT) and have it act like a member server - meaning that I don't use the local user database but instead assing permissions of shares to domain users and groups. To avoid having to administer both users in the NT domain and on the samba
