DTrace MFC broke kldstat(2) on RELENG_7
Hi, I recently noticed that kldstat(8) started to dump core for me on RELENG_7. I traced the problem down to kldstat(2). r182231 (DTrace MFC) introduced a new version of kld_file_stat struct and added some code to support the old version of the structure in kldstat(). In the new code the old structure is known as kld_file_stat_1. Unf...

...memory, which may result in a privilege escalation or cause a system panic. IV. Workaround No workaround is available, but systems not using the Linux binary compatibility layer are not vulnerable. The following command can be used to test if the Linux binary compatibility layer is loaded: # kldstat -m linuxelf V. Solution Perform one of the following: 1) Upgrade your vulnerable system to 7-STABLE, 8-STABLE, or 9-STABLE, or to the RELENG_7_4, RELENG_8_3, RELENG_9_0, or RELENG_9_1 security branch dated after the correction date. 2) To update your vulnerable system via a source code patch:...

Getting GELI Keys from Floppy
Hello, i want to encrypt my HDD's with GELI (not the root-fs, though). I want to do the encryption without password, just with a key. The key should be stored in a floppy disk, and the read should be read automatically on boot, from the floppy. There is a problem here, because GELI initializes _before_ mounting the disks from /etc/fstab (for obvious reasons, of course). So GELI is not able

kldload: Unsupported file type
Since updating to 6.3-RELEASE on two machines I see this message a lot. It is printed whenever a kernel module is loaded. The modules load OK. Nothing special or different about them. It seems to be harmless, but any idea why it's started happening since the release? Cheers BMS

[CRON] Right way to restart Asterisk and Zaptel?
Hello About every three months, my dad's little Asterisk server that handles his business phone line with an OpenVox PCI card stops taking calls. To check if it's the cause, I'd like to run a CRON job every night to restart Zaptel and Asterisk. Before I go ahead, I'd like to know if I can just send the following commands, or if there are issues I should know about:
