New user's naive question
...a simple way of telling whether I should mount these as ext3 or ext2? In other words, is there a command that will tell me everything about the file system on a given partition? I looked in the EXT3 File System mini-HOWTO, but that didn't seem to answer my question. - Richard. -- Richard Kimber Political Science Resources: http://www.psr.keele.ac.uk/

Assertion failure in do_get_write_access() at transaction.c:609:
Hi all (and developers in particular) I just got bitten by this Assertion. The one that starts as in the subject, and ends with: "!(((jh2bh(jh))->b_state & (1UL << BH_Lock)) != 0)" Google reminds me that it was mentioned a few times earlier this year, but I couldn't find any statement saying that it has been fixed. I got this in a 2.4.16 kernel, though the

2.6 /ext3 and audio
http://www.alsa-project.org/~iwai/audio-latency.pdf seems to suggest that ext3 should not be used with 2.6 kernels for audio work. Why is this, and is there likely to be any improvement? - Richard. -- Richard Kimber http://www.psr.keele.ac.uk/

Reading Dates in a csv File
Hi all. I'm reading in a flat, comma-delimited flat file using read.csv. It works marvelously for the most part. I am using the colClasses argument to, basically, create numeric, factor and character classes for the columns I'm reading in. However, a couple of the fields in the file are date fields. I'm fully aware that POSIXct can be used as a class, however the field must obey,

Parameterized Samples Withdrawn
Although the parameterized samples have allowed people to get a firewall up and running quickly, they have unfortunately set the wrong level of expectation among those who have used them. I am therefore withdrawing support for the samples and I am recommending that they not be used in new Shorewall installations. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Shorewall - iptables made easy AIM: tmeastep \

Contrasts
Hello, I am trying to figure out how to conduct a t-test on a specific contrast for my data. I have four factors in my data and would like to conduct a t-test on the average of the data from the first two factors against the average of the data on the second two factor (i.e. is the average of the first two different from the average of the second two). Is there a quick way to do this? I found

Equivalent AIC values
Hello R-helpers. We have a question about AIC values. We ran several different GLMs (quadratic, interactions) and our lowest AIC values were the same for several different models. We don't know how to interpret this. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Katrina Shelding _________________________________________________________________ e. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

help
Hi, I need to calculate the average length of a trait per individual. I am not used to working with R so I could use some help. The table goes like this: ind trait 1 3.6 1 3.8 1 3.9 1 3.6 2 5.5 2 5.2 3 4.8 3 4.5 and so on... If I type mean(trait) it will give me the average of all the individuals and I need a list of averages per individual.

logistic discrimination: which chance performance??
Hello, I am using logistic discriminant analysis to check whether a known classification Yobs can be predicted by few continuous variables X. What I do is to predict class probabilities with multinom() in nnet(), obtaining a predicted classification Ypred and then compute the percentage P(obs) of objects classified the same in Yobs and Ypred. My problem now is to figure out whether P(obs) is
