AD Auth Trusted Domain issues
I have been killing myself on this issue over the last 2 weeks. I have setup pam AD authentication using winbind on our companies email servers. That part is currently working. I have been trying to add an existing "Trusted" child domain and allow authentication from that domain as well. I am part of the way there, but not quite to the functional point as of yet. Our primary domain

SAMBA Groups and Permissions
hi i have a user ~# id test_user uid=500,gid=500 (users),groups (users, kids) as you can see, this user is in primary group "users" and also member of group "kids" if he tries to access /home/board via smb (Samba 3.0 + openldap) from a windows client (XP), he fails, because his sambaPrimaryGroupSID maps to -> "users" and /home/board is...

openssh 2.5.2p2/Solaris 5.8 problems
openssh 2.5.2p2 on Solaris 8 has PAM/cron problems. If I build it with PAM then cron quits working giving "cron audit problem." errors. If I turn PAM off then cron works but I get kicked out of any session where a password is needed (i.e. no .rhosts/.shosts or not using ssh-agent) with the message "Connection closed by IP#". I get through if I have a .rhosts/.shosts or use

Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
When I SSH using protocol 1 from a Debian box running OpenSSH 2.9p2-4 to a sparc.sunos5 box running vanilla OpenSSH 2.9.1, after a little while (of inactivity?) I get the following message on the client terminal: Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98 Looking further, this message is actually caused by the SSH daemon. However, I'm at a loss to determine why sshd is doing this. I attach

MSetIterator::get_percent Shows Increased Values When Using Query::OP_FILTER
.... I've attached a test case that shows the odd behavior that I am seeing. I had a database with 2 documents, each with one term 'cold' and 'kid'. Each document also has a boolean term for the owner of the document 'Ome'. Below are the results for a search for 'cold kids' on that set with and without the owner filter. The weight 0.405465108108 stays the same for both queries, but the percentage increases from 50 to 100 with the addition of the filter. Query: Xapian::Query((cold OR kids)) 1 - 0.405465108108 - 50 - Ome, cold 2 - 0.405465108108 - 50 - Ome, kids...

How to deal with multicollinearity in mixed models (with lmer)?
..._c+I(byear_c^2) +I(byear_c^3)+I(byear_c^4))+(byear_c|Studyparish),family=binomial) This is the maximum model and I have not begun to simplify it. The model is used to interpret the pattern how a mother's cohort year and total number of children will affect average survival rate of her children. Kids and byear_c have been centered, so the problem of correlation between linear term and polynomial terms (quadratic, cubic et al) has been solved to some degree. A still serious problem with this model is that number of children is correlated with cohort year, as we know the fact that number of child...

Block internet access for some users on the LAN ?
...devices. <snip> If nixspam doesn't gag me again - tried to respond yesterday. Put anyone whose MAC address isn't registered on a different subnet, like 192.168.11.x, and give your router no route to 9.0.9.9, only to the internal. As a response to someone else's cmts, the set of kids who knows how they're being blocked is a small subset of all kids, and those who know that a MAC address can be forged is a small subset of the previous. And *then* they'd have to find out a valid MAC address. On top of that, it would seem to me that the ones for whom you have a registered...

Automatic logoff, kickoff time, etc.
Hello. I am in the process of setting up a home network where 2 of the users will be kids. Because of this, I have decided that it would be nice to have a login time restriction for thier XP workstations, as well as an automatic logoff time. This can be done with any Windows domain controller, and I've had halfway luck with Samba. What I've done so far... I've gotten Samba...

Kid Pix Studio Deluxe and Wine?
Does Kid Pix Studio Deluxe run under Wine? An elementary school I visited recently was running that program on all their Windows machines, and wouldn't consider switching to Linux unless it was supported. winehq.com doesn't resolve in DNS for me tonight :-( so I can't check the database. I don't have a copy myself, so I can't test it personally. (Hmm, maybe I should get

Help with blocking internet traffic at certain times

I''ve just set up a firewall at home to keep my teenagers under control (shorewall, squid and dansguardian). I''ve also set up a cron job that switches my shorewall rules between a day and a night configuration. The night configuration blocks
