kiax - iax2 softphone
Has anyone on here used kiax before? I am asking because I have it installed on several computers and have been able to get it to connect and register to my Asterisk box. I can even call between them and my SIP softphones. The problem I am having is this: when I use kiax to call someone else, they get some kind of backgroun...

Hi all, Can some one suggest me an IAX client for Linux and Windows? I used KIAX once, but know it seems complicated to have it working on Ubuntu. Thanks. Ronaldo.

Softphone question
I'm afraid I already know the answer because I've done a lot of searching, but does anyone know of a softphone that supports a central phone book and paging (like the sip autoanswer option of some hardphones) Thanks, David Ruggles CCNA MCSE (NT) CNA A+ Network Engineer Safe Data, Inc. [Softphones] ZoIPer vs. XLite?
Hello I need to hook up someone's remote PC onto our Asterisk server over the Net. There are firewalls on each side, so I figured it's time to give IAX a try, and see if it's less of a pain to use than SIP. And since IAX hardphones are pretty are, I guess I'll go softphone. Apparently, the two most well-known IAX and SIP clients for Windows are ZoIPer and X-Lite, respectively.

paging thru sipura-841
Hello List, I've spent the last day trying to find information on how to call multiple sip phones and have them all answer so I page everbody. When I use Dial( ext&ext&ext... ) the first phone that answers gets the page, but none of the others do. Is there a way to get around this? TIA, Steve

Zap FXS slow to reset?
I have the following dialplan (segment) that isn't working as I expected it to: exten => s,n,Dial(Zap/1&SIP/202&SIP/203,18) exten => s,n,Dial(Zap/1&SIP/201&SIP/202&SIP/203,42) The plan was to have SIP/201 added to the group of ringing phones after 3 or so rings. What ends up happening, though, is the Zap/1 phone STOPs ringing when the dialplan falls through to

Softphone for Linux desktops
Hi all, We are successfuly running an Asterisk server with standard SIP hard phones and it is working well. We are looking to deploy some soft phones on our Linux desktops. There seems to be several floating about. Anyone out there with some good/bad experiences with particular Linux softphones. We only need g711 and prefer IAX but a SIP one will do.... Thanks....

no tx audio
I have an asterisk server that connects to my voip provider over iax2. Some of the POTS phone numbers I've called consistently get no tx audio. This behavior happens with kiax on the same machine as the server and with iaxcomm on an ubuntu desktop, a windows desktop, and a windows laptop. The ISP's tech came today and I used iaxcomm on his laptop to connect to my asterisk server and called one of the problem numbers and the tx audio worked. After he left I tried ia...

IAX call path optimization with more than 3 legs
...firm my observations? It seems that the first node, that sends the TXREQ Message, is "optimized". For better understanding: before optimization: C1 <----> A1 <----> A2 <----> A3 <----> C2 after: C1 <----> A1 <----> A2 <----> C2 C1/2: Client with Kiax application A1/2/3: Asterisk Server 1.2.12.1, on Ubuntu Linux <---.>: Connection via IAX protocol thanx for reading, Ramon __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? VoIP encryption with SIP and IAX
...d IAX softphones clients, and I need to encrypt the voip calls among them: *For SIP clients I use Twinkle which implements the ZRTP/SRTP encryption mechanism client-2-client; I read it's the better security mechanism nowadays created by Phill Zimmerman who created PGP. *For IAX clients I used Kiax but I don't know exactly if there is any encryption mechanism for this protocol. Two short questions: 1) Do you think ZRTP/SRTP is the best option to encrypt SIP voip calls ??? 2) What is the best way to encrypt IAX voip calls ??? Really thanks Alejandro

Record individual callers in ConfBridge?
...line up the starts of the WAV files, and it's fine at first. But after about 5 minutes, the audio goes out of sync, and one of us is ahead of the other, and it gets worse throughout the call, even if I split the WAV and realign every 5 minutes, it's still off. All of us are using IAX2 via Kiax (I on Linux, the others on Windows), all using the ULAW codec. There's nothing else going on with this setup. The system specs (Dual Core 3GHz, 3GB RAM) should be able to handle recording to 3 or 4 WAV files at once, I'd imagine, so I don't think that's the issue. Is there an alter...

Soft phones.
Hey, all. I'm looking -- if possible -- for a decent, multi-platform soft-phone. Specifically, Linux and Windows; that way, I'll go through the same issues my end users do. I've noticed a couple (e.g., minisip, which seems abandoned, and sip-communicator, which, honestly, is probably a great IM client, but has a confusing interface for actual phone calls). So I'm wondering if

SIP Softphone on Thinclient?
Is anyone doing this or has anyone tried? The thin clients are running WindowsCE, a browser, and 300mhz. They are Wyse units. I wonder if anyone has any practical advise or can recommend the best phone or method to load a stable softphone on one of these boxes? Thanks, Steve Totaro

Soft Phone
Does anyone have any experience with an Asterisk compatible softphone application which meets the following criteria: 1) Is able to use touch screen rather than mouse for on-screen functions. 2) Has an API which can be used to export Caller ID info to another App on the same compuer. Thanks Bill

Voice Encryption
Hi, Does Asterisk support encryption of voice traffic? I found following wiki that describes IAX RSA authentication. I was able to implement the public/private key authentication among three Asterisk servers connected using IAX protocol. I am not certain if voice traffic can also be encrypted among the Asterisk servers. Your help is highly appreciated.
