US 2004 Elections map
even for people who didn't like the outcome of the US elections this
year, it must have been a joy to see all the nice (and not so nice)
graphs that were shown. As an exercise, I recreated the map shown on
the NY-Times website [
http://www.nytimes.com/packages/khtml/2004/11/03/politics/

If you're interested,

contains the created maps, the data and the code. Note that there are
some differences in the R map and the NYT map (most notably with
respect to some missing data in s...

Having icecast SSL connection problem
I have been trying to get icecast 2.4.2 to stream with ssl to https. But so far I have had no luck.
I am running Ubuntu 16.04 and the regular stream is working properly over port 80. I want to stream securely over port 443. I need to use 443 because of network rules here. I can view the Icecast2 Status pages and listen to a stream, but once I add https:// I get 'Secure Connection Failed'

Autocompletion not working in Konqueror
I''ve just had a look again at the autocompletion demo that Thomas put up
at
http://script.aculo.us/demos/ajax/autocompleter
Unfortunately, in Konqueror (3.4.1) it doesn''t work at all. Not even an
error is triggered. It does work nicely in Firefox. How about Safari?
I don''t have the time right now to track this down systematically (maybe
latter), but just from

Problems with repeated calls to setTimeout?
Prototype.js and Thomas''s effects scripts use repeated setTimeout calls
for timed looping, for instance in time-based observers.
On Konqueror 3.4.1 (possibly other khtml-based browsers, too), these
observers reproducibly crash the browser. Just keeping open a browser
with such an observer is enough. After some time it invariably
segfaults. When I substitute setInterval for setTimeout (mutatis
mutandis), no such thing occurs. For instance, when I open

[LLVMdev] wrong guessed OS platform
Hi,
http://llvm.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?product=clang
thinks that I am running on a PC with OS of "all".
My user agent string on my browser is:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_5; en-us) AppleWebKit/
526.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0dp1 Safari/526.11.2
Isn't that enough to know that this is Mac OS X running version 10.5.5 ?
:-)
Thanks,
Dan

Its not a IPv6 problem we have this problem on IPv4.

Konqueror and the Cookiejar
...ed an occasional problem with
konqueror. I've been recompiling my ports for the past few weeks and have
noticed that some sites are complaining about cookies not being enabled.
Further investigation has revealed that if I start konqueror from the
terminal prompt, I can get an error message:
khtml (dom) Can't communicate with the cookiejar!
A workaround I've discovered is to run kded first. Konqueror works with
cookies after that.
Question:
What process is NOT running kded during the startx process? Where is there a
log to track this?

Konqueror Reference Error HTMLFormElement
...variable:
HTMLFormElement" ( Prototype 1.5.0_rc1 ). So I had a closer look in the
prototype.js file and recognized that there is a special function to
create needed elements for Konquereror and Safari.
The intersting line is in line 1298:
if (!window.HTMLElement &&
/Konqueror|Safari|KHTML/.test(navigator.userAgent)) {
This checks, weather HTMLElement is defined. For some reason meanwhile
the Konqueror and Safari support HTMLElement but the Konqueror still
has problems with the rest of the elements needed to extend.
If you change the line to
if (!window.HTMLFormElement &&...

Konqueror compatibility
Thomas,
currently the script.aculo.us scripts have some workarounds for Safari
that should be extended to more generally cover all khtml-based
browsers, Konqueror in particular.
In prototype.js, there is a workaround for an addEventListener bug that
affects Konqueror as well as Safari, controls.js has a similar
workaround, and the special case in dragdrop.js doesn''t hurt anyway.
In the current state, autocomplete in pa...

DRM and Ogg Vorbis ??
Dear all,
I would like to know whether it is possible to use any DRM scheme
with Ogg-Vorbis ?
My idea would be to distribute music commercially and be able
guarantee to artists that they won't be copied freely.
Thanks for your advice.
