RE: Two questions
I am happy using icecast/ices, but have two questions:
1. If I was using cron to schedule a switching of a playlist, can I do
this without restarting icecast so that at a SPECIFIC TIME (let's say at
exactly 3:00 pm) a new song can be played without interupting the user
listening to the broadcast.
2. Is there a setting when the user first connects to play a *welcome*
file (i.e. about the

can icecast broadcast in SPEEX format?

Relaying
Hi,
I am relaying an shoutcast stream using icecast2. There aren't many
listeners (yet), so I was wondering if it would be possible to only
connect to the source server if there are any listeners, to save
bandwith. The two servers are practically on a LAN, so connection time
is minimal. I think the listeners wouldn't notice any delay at all.
So my question is: is this currently

Play static file before stream
Hi everyone,
I'm new to icecast and would like to know if it is possible to play a
static file before a stream. I would very much like to accomplish this
from icecast rather than a playlist, as the playlist can be bypassed.
Is it possible to direct icecast to play mountpoints sequentially? My
initial thoughts were to create 2 mountpoints, 1 for the static file
and 1 for the stream, then have

Not in the trunk/releases, but I have some work in my branch for testing
such a thing (svn or http://mediacast1.com/~karl/ kh6 is latest). Just
add
<intro>/path/to/intro.ogg</intro>
in the <mount> section relating to the stream. The filename is currently
relative to <webroot>, so you can download it as a normal file as well.
Using intro files is still subject to the same considerations as

only my branch code has the on-demand relay support currently, it's on
my list of things to merge.

2.1-kh6 is latest, which is really a 2.2 equivalent, and yes I am slowly
working towards a 2.2-kh1.
One thing to watch for is if the shoutcast server bursts a lot of stream
data at the beginning and you have slow clients starting the relay. For
such cases you can increase the queue size and/or reduce burs...

[ANNOUNCE] Unofficial icecast-kh and libtheora Debian Sarge packages
...stall icecast2 libtheora0
- For Debian Testing there seems to be an issue where it tries to
install
the older icecast2 package which conflicts with libtheora alpha6, so
you
might get "broken dependencies".
So to workaround this just do:
apt-get install icecast2=2.3-kh6-1 libtheora0=0.0.0.alpha7-1
BUT be aware that you should replace the values after the "=" sign to
match the latest icecast version available. We hope to fix this soon if
possible.
Another solution to overcome this problem should be to play with apt
pinning, something about I don't kn...

Client has fallen behind
Hi Guys,
I have a lot of streaming running with Icecast (Icecast 2.1-kh5) and
they work fine on (for example) winamp. The fact is that we have many
listeners tuning in with mp3-web-radio's on slow connections. Some of
the streams connect only once in a few time. They connect and disconnect
after sending 8k.
The error is:
