Over 400 smbd pid's?
Over the past 2 days, my smbd processes are multiplying worse than rabbits. At least with rabbits it's easy to tell why you wind up with so many... Here's the setup: Samba version 3.2.8-0.24 installed via rpm on a FC6 box with 2 nics, both on the same subnet. The samba server acts as a PDC in a mixed environment but mostly windows pc's running xp. It is used mostly for file

What should I do in order to be able to compile OpenSSH 3.1p1 with OpenSSL 0.9.5a? I get a lot of EVP related compile errors in cipher.c, appended. Thanks. OSX causing multiple CLOSE_WAIT's
Lately it never fails when I attach a Mac running OSX 10.5 that I get runaway pid's. I tracked them down so far to multiple close_wait's: # /usr/sbin/lsof | grep pbg5mac smbd 24876 root 6u IPv4 80015755 TCP yoda.wrenkasky.com:netbios-ssn->pbg5mac.wrenkasky.com:49381 (CLOSE_WAIT) They can grow to over 100 if I don't catch it or nobody can log on anymore ;-)

Whats all this Linux business anyway?
Alright lads, I'm Rick Masters and I know very little about networks, but for some mad reason I have been given the job of setting up a Linux File Server on an NT network. How the dickens does that work? Anyway I need as much help as you can be bothered to give me. And there is a free pizza in it for the guy who helps me get it working :-) You are all super and great fun (I'm sure).

Log file confusion
I am currently running Samba 3.0.28.0 from rpm on FC6. I am currently running version 3.3.2 on an older Fedora machine that works just fine with XP. Kohonen's SOM in R?
...dure in R ? I am aware of the implementations of Sammon mapping, multidimensional scaling and, somewhat peripherally, principal curves and projection pursuit .. but not SOM per se as far as I can see. Am I missing something? --------------------- for anyone interesed in SOM I found Samuel Kaski's thesis "Data exploration using self-organizing maps" fairly accessible http://www.cis.hut.fi/~sami/thesis.ps and there is a wealth of material at http://www.cis.hut.fi/research/som-research/som.shtml John Aitchison -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-...

smb ports feedback
Having read a few posts recently I thought I would do some testing. Given XP's use of 445 and that I have a couple of networks where they only have XP clients, I thought I would try setting smb ports to 445 only rather than that suggested of just specifying 139. This has worked well for XP clients with SP2. However SP1, and presumably pre-SP1 clients, lose all sight of the NBT network.

Resend: Internal and Panic Errors after raid rebuild
I just discovered that the smbd process is stopping but nothing is showing up in the log until the internal error... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good morning! I am at a loss on this one. I had a drive go down and I so had to bring the server down to fix and reinitialize the array, I can't keep samba running. I have included the log file entries below. Thinking that maybe something with my samba

Network browsing
Hello all, I've been able to successfully set up a small network, using Samba as a PDC. I'm currently using the latest updated version of Fedora 7, and the latest version of Samba. I'm really new to DNS and WINS, so please excuse my ignorance if I've completely overlooked something. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction... My Samba server is set up as a domain
