xloadimage in centos 5.1
I have noticed that xloadimage rpm is not in centos 5.1 I use the command "xview -identity" to get the size of gifs, jpgs, and pngs. xview is part of the xloadimage package. The command "file filename" also reports sizes for gifs and pngs BUT not for jpgs. Is there an alternative command to use to report gif jpg and png sizes? I thought about just getting an older xloadimage package and that works but I...

including images in a plot
Does anyone know if it is possible to incorporate image files (e.g., jpgs or gifs) in an R graphic? I would like to make a scatterplot in which each point is a small picture of the animal represented by each value. Each picture would be a graphics file. Is there some way to use such files as plot symbols in R? Cheers, Steve -- --------------------------------------...

estimating backuppc
talking with a client about various options for backup. They are an advertising agency so most of the space is used by various binary files JPG/TIFF/Movies. We have been using LTO-2 but if we jump up their storage to say 2Tb, that's going to be $5000 for LTO-3 with magazines. This affords us 3 week rotations rather simply. If we add hard drive storage for backups instead of buying LTO-3 tape

...source. It will most likely work just fine but I am curious if folks are using anything with fewer system requisites (e.g. installing and configuring the Cluster Suite). Specifically to our case, we have 50 nodes running in-house code (some in Java, some in C) which (among other things) receives JPGs, processes them and stores them for later viewing. We are looking to deploy this filesystem specifically for this JPG storage component. All nodes are running Centos 5.1 x86_64. -geoff Geoff Galitz Blankenheim NRW, Deutschland http://www.galitz.org

rsync ignores --force and will not delete non-empty directories from destination (HFS+ -> FAT32)
...s but cannot find anything that touches on this particular issue. My scenario: I am trying to rsync from an external HFS+ (USB2) to a FAT32 external NAS drive, using rsync version 2.6.9 protocol version 29 (as supplied with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11). The data being synced is MP3 music files and JPGs. The command I am issuing within my script is: rsync -ruxi "$sourcedir" "$destdir" \ --size-only --force --log-file="$synclog" --stats --delete --modify-window=2 --out-format="%i %n%L (%b)" $* >>"$logfn" 2>&1 The issue...

Rsync to remote host much faster than 10k/sec speeds on local rsync
...s, with 90%+ cpu usage. I have tried --bwlimit 100 in a vague hope it might affect disk io but it didn't help. Rsync version is 2.6.9 1.el4.rf from rpm. The directory size of the destination backup directory is around 30gb. There is one directory where the majority of the files are and they are jpgs between 5k-150kb. The command I am running is simple: /usr/bin/rsync -a --bwlimit=100 --stats /src/dir1 /src/dir2 /backup/dir -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

howto improve sharpeness of fonts in a jpg-image produced by R ?
Hi. I've done a standard barplotexample using R1-8.0, redhat8, probably using a GhostScript-integration. How can I improve the "sharpness" of the fonts. See for example the barplot (originally jpg coming from R) which is part of this screendump: http://www.zug.dk/Members/Nielssteenkrogh/1067525916309553166/element_103003161029 I'm not sure where to improve the this. [Flac-users] Re: settings for tighter compression than -8?
Early this past week, Miroslav Lichvar suggested for me: > Ok, you need 0.04% improvement, that should not be a problem. Try > flac --lax -e -p -l 32 -r 10 --no-padding Thank you again, Miroslav. I tried that, and it took almost two full days (surprisingly, Windows ME stayed up that long without crashing) to re-encode the entire set on my 266-MHz machine. After all, in the help file

...d reiser4 works quite well.. the main inspiration behind the store design is git. the API for the store should be familiar to users of jQuery.. as with one class wrapping a DOM node, you get one class wrapping a RDF resource. the resource can be an actual file on the filesystem - eg throw a dir of jpgs off your cam into a web dir and start annotating them.. literals are any valid JSON data, and resource versioning is available. a JSON query engine is included, which queries like this: { type:Type, ''type='':''http://weblog.com/story'', date:Modified,...

File_Column Development Dead?
I''m curious if anyone knows if development on the file_column plug in is continuing? I''ve seen some SVN commits from awhile back but no binary releases. Did Sebastian speak at Canada on Rails? Anyone catch that? What is the future of file_column?

Photo Tracking: Releases, Subjects, Versions, Metadata, etc
...n photos, but we also shoot the occasional video or take audio recording. For each of these records I need to track: - The subjects that appear in them - The media release status of each subject - The original media itself (thank you file column!!!) - Additional versions of the media (thumbnails, jpgs of RAW images, alternate codec video/audio, etc) - Other metadata (previous usages, timestamping, author, etc) Then I want to put together controllers that allow actions like... - Easily link directly to media in the archive - Easily upload new media - List media containing a specified subject or...

Windows BMPs: Why grey background? How to display BMP in R?
...points with microarray data] the Windows metafile is not the way to go (nor is postscript) because the files are too large and repainting them takes too long. Does R provide a way to plot to a bmp and then display that graphic immediately? It's a pain to leave R just to view the graphics. JPGs work fine for real world images, but not that well for drawings. BMPs look like the only alternative when plotting a huge number of points so the file size is reasonable. (GIFs with drawings would be even better than BMPs. I guess I could try PNGs.) With the GIF/LZW patent issue now in the pa...

png device & videos
Hi all; please, has anyone found a way to convert a series of png files created in an R script into a video (as avi), from within the same R script? I know this has little relation with typical R problems. Just because I've spent all day without finding a solution, and perhaps anyone has done it before here. Thanks and best regards, Javier -- A. Flickr Uploader Unable to Read From SD Card
Hi, recently my installation of Flickr Uploader (v2.5) has stopped being able to read JPGs from the SD card. I can still browse and select the file, and I can still open the files in other applications (ie, I am pretty sure it's not a permissions issue), but Flickr Uploader reports that the file is not in a supported format. However, if I copy the file to my hard drive the Uploader o...

Error code -43 when copying from OS X to Samba server
...by using the "Save..." command. I can copy them to my Mac's HFS+ hard drive and back to the Win2000 machine. But when I try to copy them from either source to the Samba machine, I get the error. Here's the interesting part. If I open them back up in Photoshop and save them as JPGs using the "Save for Web..." command, I have no trouble coping the new files to the Samba server. It seems to me that it has something to do with the resource forks. Anybody have any ideas about what the problem is? Thanks a lot. --Dan

Lost file associations, too - urgent
I just returned from a week's vacation and brought my CentOS 5.0 system back up, updated it, and somehow it has lost all the .doc file associations. These used to be associated with the OpenOffice writer, but that's now gone. ACtually, all the "open with" associations are gone (rtf's now think they should be opened by the text editor!). I'm not sure exactly what the
