Package dependencies and imports
Dear list members,
I'm encountering the following problem with package dependencies and
imports:
The Rcmdr package doesn't declare a formal dependency (via depends or
suggests in the package DESCRIPTION) on the rgl package because the latter
apparently causes problems on some systems. This allows the Rcmdr package to
build and check on systems without rgl present; if rgl isn't

Testing for S4 objects
Dear r-help list members,
Is there a way to test whether an object is an S4 object? The best that I've
been able to come up with is
isS4object <- function(object) !(is.null(slotNames(object)))
which assumes that an S4 object has at least one slot. I think this is safe,
but perhaps I'm missing something.
Thanks,
John

oggz tool renames
Hi,
After lots and lots of requests, I went through and changed all the
tool names in oggz so that they contain hyphens:
http://trac.annodex.net/changeset/3627
That patch touches the names of built executables, references to them
in docs and scripts (ie. oggz-dump is called by oggz-diff) etc.
There's lots of little places where the tool names appear, so please
test against the current oggz

PC Backup Script?
I am trying to setup my Sun running samba 1.9.18p10 so that it can
backup my dept's PCs. I can get it to work manually using the
smbclient command with no problem. What I would like to do is have
a script that is able to take a list of PCs, determine if a PC is online,
backup that PC, then move on to the next one. If a PC is down,
it can report an error to the admin to state that the

Programmatically counting RSpec tests?
If I have an object `obj` that is a SpecTask, and subsequently invoke
it, is there a way to programmatically determine the number of tests
that were successful, failed, and pending as a result of running that
SpecTask?

[ao] Two patches for libao2
Hi Heikki,
So libao is currently not maintained upstream. In the appropriate IRC
channels I'm lead to believe that there are better libraries out there
that should be used instead.
If so many debian packages didn't link against it I would seriously
consider dropping it all together.
It doesn't sound like it's worth anyone's time maintaining libao
properly upstream. I do have
