finding roots (Max Like Est)
...s the x vector which has length 100 how would I find the roots using R? I have 2 thoughts...... 1 is using a grid search ... eg. brute force, just choosing a whole bunch of different values for my parameter .... such as parameter=seq(0,100,.1) .... and this is what I have so far, john=rep(0,length(x)) for(i in 1:length(x)) { john[i]=((x[i]-0)/(1+(x[i]-0)^2)) } sum(john) then john=rep(0,length(x)) for(i in 1:length(x)) { john[i]=((x[i]-.1)/(1+(x[i]-.1)^2)) } sum(john) then john=rep(0,length(x)) for(i in 1:length(x))...

NTLM oddities
...es so I can finally offer SPA for pop3/imap. Things are working fine with the MasterUser (horray!), however one of my guys started using SPA with Outlook Express and started getting another users mailbox. Turns out to be related to NTLM. His Outlook express is configured for the username of 'johnsmith'. However, you'll see the NTLM took the username from his XP machine login, it appears, which is just "John". However, what is really weird, is the "failed" on the "client out" line, but then the proxy went ahead and proxied to the storage server. Here...

2.2.4 - Some questions about and needing help with quota-status
...info that may not be immediately obvious. This is dovecot 2.2.4 with changesets 9091d0f2d971 and 2be295a0b64f. All involved databases are sqlite ones. passdb and userdb are devised so as to change usernames. For example, I could have a user with addresses "doe at oldexample.com", "johnd at oldexample.com" and "john.doe at example.com" needing to be able to log in as "jdoe" or "u123456"; all db lookups for that user then end with name "john.doe". This is a single mail user setup (user/group "dovemailer", uid/gid 999). Servic...
