good day, I am new to centos. Using a standalone laptop. Downloaded and burned the live cd. All seem ok except screen resolution only 800x600. Most importand I do not seem to find the install to hard disk option anywhere. Some distros I tried do have an option to install on the screen when you are happy about the OS. Good day, I would like to first test and then use centos 5.5. I downloaded centos 5.5 x86_64 live CD. Problem...screen resolution only 800x600. In fedora 14 it is 1024x768, same in debian squeeze and opensuse11.3. Could there be a way to increase the resolution? in either i386 or x86_64. Thanks Regards Johan

Good day, New to centos, New install . Using - Software updater While updating - downloading 73 updates there was a break in the download. The break happened close to the end. Good day, Some time ago I asked some assistance for the long hostname in the terminals. Editing .bashrc in user and root by adding PS1=xxxxxxx did make the difference. Here is something I picked up on another list that make editing .bashrc not necessary. as root.. gedit /etc/sysconfig/network # HOSTNAME=localhost.localdomain change to in my case and that solves the problem

Hi, After some postings and advice I did some tests. It seems that I should rather backup to linux partition then a vfat partition. Using it to vfat a lot errors/complaints and all the files not at dest dir. Using it to ext3 - no errors/complaints and all files at dest dir. It seems then that rsync was meant for linux. Hi, Have one workstation 192.168.1.2 Have one gateway for access to internet 192.168.1.1 Connection between them by crossover cable. Only this 2 boxes. Want to copy the gateway /home/ directory to the workstation on /mnt/backup/. Both sides of copy is on ext3. Rsync is installed on both boxes ... both using Suse 9.0.
