dos floppy client for samba wanted
I need to be able to access my Samba network from a DOS floppy. Obviously
it must be a tcp/ip client rather than netbeui. Any pointers on doing
this? Not *too* cryptic as I'm not expert at this sort of thing.
I'm pretty sure I saw some material on the Samba site, but now I cannot
find it.

Absolutely. Microsoft released a TCP/IP client for DOS, and there is
another client called "TinyTCP" that works extremely well. Both are

Remote win98 refusing to connect to samba server
The problem: attempting to connect to a samba network drive from a
Windows 98 machine gives me the error message: "Not logged on".
Background:
We have been running samba to serve a number of w95 clients for a couple
of years. Some of the clients are remote and we don't bother with running
nmbd(8), so all clients have LMHOSTS files.
The problem is related to a new W98 machine

Account management...newbie question
Hi all,
I'm currently in the process of piloting a Samba server for file/print in a
Windoze NT network. I'm using Samba 2.0.5 on Caldera OpenLinux 2.3 I've
been managing Windows networks for quite a while, but Linux/Samba is new to
me.
What I want to know is: Other than making my Samba server a domain
controller, is there a relatively easy way to import my existing user
accounts

SWAT and "security=server"
Not sure if this is the right list, but I've just tried SWAT for the
first time. I am running the rev shipped with the 2.0.5a src. If I
select "security=server", there is no place to edit the "password
server=" param, or at least not that I can find.
Am I correct that there is no place to edit this info and I must do it
manually?
Thanks!

Printing from Linux to Win98
I have a printer - an HP 1120c - connected to my wife's Win98 machine.
Occasionally I would like to print to that printer instead of the HP
Laserjet 4+ connected to my Linux machine. Could someone explain a
couple of things for me?
1. I am running Mandrake 6.0. When I start printtool, it complains that
it does not believe Samba is installed. Why and how do I fix?
2. I ignore the message and

Print Issue with HP 1120C
A week or so ago I posted an issue about printing from my Linux/Samba
2.0.5a box to a Win98 print queue that ends up at an HP Deskjet 1120C. I
have since managed to enable printing, however only in PostScript mode
(I am using the RedHat printtool util to test). PostScript looks pretty
darn good, however sending an ascii job to the queue results in the
printed line "If this is all you see, try

Considering upgrade - looking for input
Hi all,
I'm considering upgrading my Samba server (originally Mandrake 7.2, but
bears little resemblance to it anymore) from 2.0.10 to 2.2.8. I'm
wondering if I'll be gaining anything in the upgrade in the way of
performance, management, etc. It's a pretty simple enviro handling a few
shares - home dirs, public share, etc - and probably won't grow to much
more than that.

Need some speed help - Linux to Win98 is slow
I need some help from those folks I've seen on this list with the speed
problems. I noticed while printing to a smb printer from my Linux box
tonight (which I just managed to get running) that the speed is horribly
slow. I did some tests - the results follow.
