Hi I got help from someone in the #Samba channel. It turned out that my Samba Server (JIMMY) was not resolving. DNS was not aware of him. So the suggestion was to use the "netbios name = JIMMY" in my smb.conf and in the user's "profile tab" enter the path using jimmy's IP. \\IP\disk1\profs That did the trick. I have found some active work back in 2017 from Francis Visoiu Mistrih and Kit Barton from the following links. However, it seems that all the work suddenly stops and the improvement for the existing shrink wrapping did not make it into the trunk. Is this work abandoned?

Hi Yes you are right it is a workaround but the reason is not resolvable at the moment is because Samba server is not registered in our DNS yet. I believe once a DNS entry is created, I will be able to use the name instead of the IP in the user's profile path. Hello, I've have an installation where some clients run via a VPN tunnel and modem and that makes W2k clients to connect on port 445, but i need to have it running on port 139 as well so i start smbd for port 445 via inetd and nmbd and smbd on port 139 as daemons. But now for my problem, some local clients have problems when printing, they get permission denied, could that be due to this? And
