altering prefix to multiple variables in different locations within a command file
Hello,
I am seeking advice regarding how I might add the prefix " kc$ " to
variables in a series of commands. The complication is that there is
a large number of variables with different commands. Examples of the
variables in typical commands follow.
It is simple to use search & replace for common variables such as
"group" but I would appreciate advice about whether

rails internals?
Is there a list for discussing Rails internals or is that kind of one
of those jealously guarded secret things?
Also, I seem to be being a bit of a prat today, but if you read this closely:

Bit of a grammatical error there. (Sorry!)

PG_arch_1
Xenlinux uses a special architecture-dependent bit in the page table,
called PG_arch_1 to indicate that a page is "foreign" (PG_foreign).
It also apparently uses it to determine if a page is pinned (PG_pinned).
Linux/ia64 (and apparently Linux/ppc and Linux/ppc64) use the PG_arch_1
bit for other purposes. On Linux/ia64, it is used to determine if
the instruction cache needs to be

RFH -> Request for Help.
Hello all,
I've been playing with tinc to setup a wan between two offices of the
company that I work for. I'm partially there but having a slight problem.
tinc comes up between the 2 machines (both 2.2.14 debian woody
machines), and I can ping from the vpn machine at office a, and get a
response from office b. However, if I ping any other machine across the
wan I can't get a

Mingw gcc 6.x on CentOS6?
Hello there!
I'm stuck here on my CentOS6 w/ current EPEL's version of mingw32/64 gcc
(4.9.2), jealous about the Ubuntu's 5.3.0 version and even more jealous
about Fedora 24's top-recent 6.1.0.. and now I need msvcr120.dll
compatibility (provided by gcc 6.1.0).
Has anybody any experience w/ recompiling Fedora's 24 mingw RPMs or
another way to get the latest gcc

I have, and it's certainly helpful. Since the Kalescope tutorial is so
amazingly easy to work through that it makes me jealous for a similar
tutorial on the backend. But I'm definitely not complaining. =)

[LLVMdev] JavaScript Backend
Hi all,
Over the past couple weeks, I've been putting together a JavaScript
backend for LLVM. At this point, I believe I've got reasonable
implementations for all the instructions, primitives and derived
types. I haven't gotten around to most of the intrinsics but I thought
it would be a good idea to start getting some feedback before going
much further. If anyone has the time and

[Bridge] Question about VLANs, bridges and switches
I have a question about bridges, vlans and switches. We had been using
a bridge to provide filtering between our student labs and the main
network. All the filtering does is check that a known IP matches a known
MAC address, this stops students plugging in laptops and stealing an IP
address. (And yes, we know about the MAC spoofing issues too) The
connection was nice and simple,

Any tips on teaching BDD with RSpec?
Hi
I hope this is not OT. I''m training my replacement at work to do BDD
Rails development. He''s done a CS/maths degree but has no
professional programming experience, so he''s never NOT done a project
without BDD. In a way I am jealous of his unspoilt situation :)
I''ve gone about things this way:
* first teach him some Ruby (he did mainly Java at

Komodo - switch between controller/view
For the Komodo users: I found a way to be able to switch between the
controller/action you''re editing and the corresponding view (and back)
using a Toolbox script (and thus keyboard shortcut if wanted).

but what if i don't care about centos 4?
absolutely serious question -- i appreciate that it's important to
still document how things are done in centos 4, but i have precisely
zero interest in that. given how long centos 5 has been out, and that
centos 6 is not that far down the road given the alleged release
schedule for RHEL 6 (rumoured end of year), i plan on investing my
time in centos 5 and 6 exclusively.

kernel 2.6.9-42 is faster
Gents,
Under 4.3 and the associated kernel it took 17 seconds to recompile my
entire application
on my amd 4800+ X2. Down from 1 minute and 20 seconds on my old platform.
I just tried under the new 2.6.9-42 kernel and it is 15 seconds.
So that modification to the kernel for disk improvement seemed to help
my compile time...
Just sharing...
Great work on 4.4.

SMBFS, automounting and NFS
Hi all, I have a question which we think has probably been asked before,
but I can't find any solutions. Bofore I get to the details, I'll give
some background.
I work at a university and we have a bundle of undergraduate and
postgraduate students. Our computer system is currently divided roughly
into a windows (XP) system and a linux (Redhat 8.0) system. The linux
servers have

CVS messages
Hi all,
There is a new list for all the CVS messages, so this list doesn't get
flooded like it did today. And I didn't even do anything big :)
For those of you who still want to get these messages, you can
subscribe to tinc-cvs@nl.linux.org, send a message to
majordomo@nl.linux.org with `subscribe tinc-cvs' in the body of the
message.
