rails internals?
Is there a list for discussing Rails internals or is that kind of one of those jealously guarded secret things? Also, I seem to be being a bit of a prat today, but if you read this closely: http://www.rubyonrails.org/images/headlines/community.gif Bit of a grammatical error there. (Sorry!) Giles

PG_arch_1
Xenlinux uses a special architecture-dependent bit in the page table, called PG_arch_1 to indicate that a page is "foreign" (PG_foreign). It also apparently uses it to determine if a page is pinned (PG_pinned). Linux/ia64 (and apparently Linux/ppc and Linux/ppc64) use the PG_arch_1 bit for other purposes. On Linux/ia64, it is used to determine if the instruction cache needs to be

RFH -> Request for Help.
Hello all, I've been playing with tinc to setup a wan between two offices of the company that I work for. I'm partially there but having a slight problem. tinc comes up between the 2 machines (both 2.2.14 debian woody machines), and I can ping from the vpn machine at office a, and get a response from office b. However, if I ping any other machine across the wan I can't get a

Mingw gcc 6.x on CentOS6?
Hello there! I'm stuck here on my CentOS6 w/ current EPEL's version of mingw32/64 gcc (4.9.2), jealous about the Ubuntu's 5.3.0 version and even more jealous about Fedora 24's top-recent 6.1.0.. and now I need msvcr120.dll compatibility (provided by gcc 6.1.0). Has anybody any experience w/ recompiling Fedora's 24 mingw RPMs or another way to get the latest gcc cross-compiler from mingw...

[LLVMdev] JavaScript Backend
Hi all, Over the past couple weeks, I've been putting together a JavaScript backend for LLVM. At this point, I believe I've got reasonable implementations for all the instructions, primitives and derived types. I haven't gotten around to most of the intrinsics but I thought it would be a good idea to start getting some feedback before going much further. If anyone has the time and

Any tips on teaching BDD with RSpec?
Hi I hope this is not OT. I''m training my replacement at work to do BDD Rails development. He''s done a CS/maths degree but has no professional programming experience, so he''s never NOT done a project without BDD. In a way I am jealous of his unspoilt situation :) I''ve gone about things this way: * first teach him some Ruby (he did mainly Java at uni) * then let him write a small program (to a rough description I came up with) in Ruby however he wants * then teach him how to do BDD-driven OO * then let him...

Komodo - switch between controller/view
...ers: I found a way to be able to switch between the controller/action you''re editing and the corresponding view (and back) using a Toolbox script (and thus keyboard shortcut if wanted). Check http://www.hadermann.be/blog/16/switch-between-rails-controller-and-view -in-komodo/ I was too jealous of this Textmate feature and don''t have time to switch to osx right now ;-) I''ll be happy to answer any questions if needed, but I''m on holiday the next 2 days so be patient... but what if i don't care about centos 4?
absolutely serious question -- i appreciate that it's important to still document how things are done in centos 4, but i have precisely zero interest in that. given how long centos 5 has been out, and that centos 6 is not that far down the road given the alleged release schedule for RHEL 6 (rumoured end of year), i plan on investing my time in centos 5 and 6 exclusively. so while i'm

kernel 2.6.9-42 is faster
Gents, Under 4.3 and the associated kernel it took 17 seconds to recompile my entire application on my amd 4800+ X2. Down from 1 minute and 20 seconds on my old platform. I just tried under the new 2.6.9-42 kernel and it is 15 seconds. So that modification to the kernel for disk improvement seemed to help my compile time... Just sharing... Great work on 4.4. Jerry
