sas.get problem
I have 3 SAS files all in the directory F:/sas, two data files and a format file : form.ea1.sas7bdat form.ea2.sas7bdat sas.fmts.sas7bdat F is a USB. I am trying import them to R using "sas.get". I have not used SAS since I was downloading data from mainframe and having to write JCL. I had forgotten how bizarre SAS can be. I currently have not even figured out how to load the files into SAS but they look fine since I can import them with no problem into SPSS. I am using R2.4.1 under Windows XP SAS files were created with SAS 9.x They convert easily into SPSS 14 I n the exam...

Question on openSSH and sending file to MVS file formats
...n. I am having trouble locating an example and think the task can not be done. Do you have an example of an unix host machine initiating a file transfer to an ibm z/OS and create a mvs file? I have examples from appendix A of the IBM Ported Tools for z?OS Users Guide that shows how from IBM jcl initiated, I shell down using the !cp command to pull it in to z/OS unix, then sFTP to the external unix machine. That works ok. I can also run an IBM mvs job and pull a file from my Tokyo site and create a MVS file, but it is running the program on the IBM side. If my client's unix Sun...

rpcclient error -- CUPS 1.1.16 provides PostScript driver for WindowsNT/2K/XP
...tings for the printfile encapsulated as PostScript comments: from the second line in the file you'd discover a few "%cupsJobTicket: ..." lines. Every other interpreter will ignore them, but CUPS as a RIP will evaluate them as settings for the printjob. The driver no longer puts "JCL" commands in front of the real PostScript (starting with a "%!PS" sequence. This means: the file will *always* be auto-typed as MIME type "application/postscript" and will go through the "pstops" filter, thusly putting the right accounting figures into the CUPS &q...

R vs Matlab: which is more "programmer friendly"?
Hi, The department of economics at our university (Budapest) is planning a course on numerical methods in economics. They are trying to decide which software to use for that, and I would like to advocate R. The other alternative is Matlab. I have found comparisons in terms of computational time for matrix algebra, but I don't think that is relevant: the bottleneck for economists is usually
