Does anyone have a supermicro 942i server chassis? I'm trying to figure out if it has a true nine 5.25" drive bays, or if the one occupied by the 3.5" caddy is special / crippled. What I want to do is install three of the supermicro 5x3 hot swap backplanes and I'm gunshy about buying one site unseen. Thanks! Gordon

Anyone know of a SATA and/or SAS HBA with battery backed write cache? Seems like using a full-blown RAID controller and exporting each individual drive back to ZFS as a single LUN is a waste of power and $$$. Looking for any thoughts or ideas. My situation: I have a cable modem (COMCAST 6Mbit d/l) and am about to also have DSL (Verizon 3 Mbit d/l). I was thinking of using CentOS (4.4, 4.5, or 5??) as a router/dhcp server/firewall for my home network consisting of 3 to 6 computers at any given time. I seek the wisdom of the members of this list on the following issues: -- Is CENTOS a good direction to go? I do not mind manually
