ad2003 schema while forest/domain at 2008R2 level
Hi everyone,
I came across this issue today while upgrading a samba4 AD. The
forest/domain level is 2008R2, however the schema partition is actually
missing the msDS-isRODC attribute (and probably a few others). It makes
the ADUC console to failed on that entry below. Here is the samba log
message (which is quite explicit :-)

Samba 4 schema upgrade.

When we use ADUC and click on Domain Controllers we have an error.
At the same time if we have a look at de syslog messages on the server, we can see "ldb: acl_read: CN=SERVER,OU=Domain Controllers,DC=DOMAIN,DC=com cannot find attr[msDS-isRODC] in of schema".
The domain has been migrated from Windows 2003 R2 so the AD schema revision is 31.
However msDS-isRODC has been introduced in AD schema revision 33.
When provisioning a new domain with samba 4.2.3, the AD schema revision is 47.
Using .ldf files provided on the windows 2008 R2...

how to upgrade schema version?

Now I cannot access the Domain Controllers via RSAT and the logs show

How do I upgrade the schema?

If the RSAT's AD Users & Computers console is deliberately changed to
use our Windows DC, the problem disappears. The console reports DC
version for the domain controllers as W2K3 for the Windows DC and as W2K
for the Samba DC.
Is this error expected? I find the error messag...

Error determinigng PSOs in system [SEC=UNOFFICIAL]

Today I demoted the temporary DC (Julius) on my network.
The demotion failed.
Failed to confirm we are not an RODC ... cannot find attribute msDS-isRODC
So I shutdown Julius and forced the demotion.
The domain seems stable until I tried LDAP authentication which fails.
The samba log says:
Error 32 determining PSOs in system.
I can't seem to find anything on this error.
Any idea how I fix this?
I cloned the disks on both DCs before demoti...

msDS-isRODC is introduced in version 32 of the schema.

Joined Samba(dc03) to windows 2003(pdc) DC.
Shut down PDC
seized all fsmo roles
did metadata cleanup
Open AD Users and Computers
I can view computers, users, etc. but it fails when trying to open Domain
Controllers.
I get this error cannot find attr[msDS-isRODC] in of schema
Now this is a VM so I restored a snapshot before I upgraded the
domain/forest level and I'm still getting that error. So I'm not sure where
to look.
I run samba-tool dbcheck --fix --cross-ncs, finds 2 errors, run it again
and fins 0.
So how to I fix my AD schema? This just...
