LDA sieve plugin [patch]
Hi all. I spent some time testing Dovecot's LDA sieve plugin and found problem with "notify" method. In fact it always returns "generic sieve error"... and thus produces bounce messages like this: ----- Your message was automatically rejected by Dovecot Mail Delivery Agent. The following reason was given: Unknown error ---- Deliver logs error: "generic sieve

5.5 & gspca
Irritating quirkyness: we have a bunch of videocams. To use, we use gspca. Usually, on an upgrade, I just go into the gspca directory (which appears, from their website, to have not been updated since '07), make clean, make, make install. Having gone up to 5.5, did the same. What's happening now is that it works, delivers the mpgs... but dumps errors in the logs: <snip> kernel:

isoMDS and 0 distances
Hi, I'm trying to do a non-metric multidimensional scaling using isoMDS. However, I have some '0' distances in my data, and I'm not sure how to deal with them. I'd rather not drop rows from the original data, as I am comparing several datasets (morphology and molecular data) for the same individuals, and it's interesting to see how much morphological variation can be

sieve plugin - reject sends MDN. Can it 550 reject ?
I'm using dovecot-1.2-sieve-0.1.15 with dovecot-1.2.11. I have a reject test filter that looks like this: require "reject"; if header :contains "subject" "reject" { reject "bye"; } Is there any way to get a "reject" filter to send back a 550 reject as detailed in http://ietfreport.isoc.org/idref/rfc5429/#section-2.5 rather than a MDN? X11 forwarding between from Mandrake(sshd) to Caldera(ssh) doesn't work!
I am having great difficulty getting X11 forwarding to work between my openssh server (Linux Mandrake 6.1) and my openssh client (Caldera OpenLinux 2.x). I get "X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication." on the Caldera box when I ssh into the Mandrake box and try to run any X app. If I make the Caldera box the server all is fine and works perfectly. Terminal connections

Stallman @ NYU
I did manage to dv-tape this from the front row, and thus got pretty fair audio, but a slightly awkward camera angle. NYU Media Lab had a tripod set up at the back, and were apparently intending to webcast the results via real. They were a little taken aback when I mentioned Richard's aversion to propietary formats, and thanked me profusely for pointing it out, and saving them grief.

Asterisk in the third world - Astricon 2010 keynote follow-up
...understanding, especially if someone copies their english language and attitude from Miami Vice ;-) Do you have any ideas of what could be done from our community? Can we create special forums where we have a different climate, more languages and better understanding? I also think we should copy ISOCs efforts and have a pre-astricon training/workshop for people that Inveneo locate and then invite them to Astricon, funded by grants form community or from somewhere else (since we lack an "Asterisk foundation" that could help here). I'm sure we can find resources to get them to Astric...

Streaming
This may be interesting to some. I recently discovered AllCast.com which has developed a p2p streaming solution. Unfortunately they decided to use WMA due to it's video capability but hopefully they could be presuaded to switch to Vorbis later when Tarkin is available. For audio though, it appears a good way to reduce bandwidth requirements at the broadcasting end and potentially

nut suddenly stopped working...
I almost had nut_2.0.5-3_i386.deb (from http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/nut - installed via dpkg, not via repository) working: * problems with getting it to come up during boot * monitoring via knutclient was OK * shutdown on low battery worked adequately, if not quite as described) and newhidups suddenly stopped talking to my Belkin F6C550-AVR . It's only been in use for a

multicast (was streaming)
it could be a bit of a minefield - i seem to remember reading of the requests for some fairly wide patents a couple of years back by um, vtrails, on anything that involves browsers http://groups.yahoo.com/group/isoc-ny/message/20 the most effective multicast sevice i've seen is swarmcast - a slashdot thread on the topic of software distro has recent words from the author

sieve fileinto rule (pigeonhole)
Hello, i discovered that when a sieve rule "fileinto drawer;" tries to deliver a mail into a non existent drawer, the drawer gets created. This is neat, but is there also a way to automatically subcribe to the created folder ? Regards, Oliver Eales

Unbelievable! These guys get more and more disgusting each day. But now I have a proof that Linux and all its free software community (samba included) are indeed growing and are indeed consideder a threat by M$. Expect more and dirtier moves. Problems with Self extracting zip files
Hi folks, I have a curious problem when executing self extracting zip files from a samba share. Everything does work, but it is very very slow. Copying the .exe onto local disk (from the samba share) takes no time at all (500kb/sec). I would say it takes about 10 times as long to unzip when run directly from the samba share. This happens will all self-extracting exe files, and also from any share

OT: Sieve + Forward as Attachment
I know that this is technically not a Dovecot problem; however, I was wondering if anyone knew if 'sieve' had been updated with the ability to 'forward as attachment' a received document. I believe it has the ability to forward a document; however, I need the ability to forward it as an attachment if possible. Also I believe, somewhat due to my asking for them, that sieve exits
