ipmasq to shoerwall
Hello, Since the ipmasq package has been dropped from debian I decided to migrate to shorewall. My setup is pretty simple: [DSL Modem] -eth0- [shorwall/gateway] -eth1- [local network] ipmasq required that I set the MTU on eth0 to 1492. Migrating to shorewall went well, but a small number of web sites would load slow...

linux 3.3-pre-rc1: Starting domU fails with Error: Failed to query current memory allocation of dom0.
Hi Konrad, Today i tried linuses tree of today (last commit is 4c4d285ad5665bfbd983b95fde8d7a477d24a361). It boots dom0 fine, but it fails to start any domU with: "Error: Failed to query current memory allocation of dom0." With my previous 3.1.5 kernel everything is fine, nothing else changed in config in between. dmesg and xm dmesg attached -- Sander Dom0 shows: total

IPMASQ and lock-up of all terminals
.... This has occurred for me for both RH6.0 and now RH6.2 beta on an x86.. Symptoms: All attempts to connect remotely receive a connection, but a login prompt never comes up. When I went to the console and turned on the monitor, I had the login prompt, but written on to the screen was the message IPMASQ: Reverse ICMP: Checksum error from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where the x's represent and IP address.. message was repeated four times, (I think). I can type in a username and hit return, and then nothing happens and it does not ask for password or anything. When I pull up other TTY's (hitting al...

Re: IPMASQ and lock-up of all terminals ---- Sum mary and update
...from one of the other ports? Do a ''netstat -antu'' while the machine is up, then try every listed port next time it''s not feeling well. >When I went to the console and turned on the monitor, I had the login >prompt, but written on to the screen was the message >IPMASQ: Reverse ICMP: Checksum error from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx But could you get another login prompt, or actually log in? If you can hit ENTER and/or Ctrl-D and get more login prompts, but as soon as you enter a user name or password it hangs, then it''s probably syslogd (login (actually PAM) will h...

Rules based on ipmasq
Hi, I had installed squid with ntlm authentication and content filtering from this tutorial: http://www.howtoforge.com/dansguardian-with-multi-group-filtering-and-squid-with-ntlm-auth-on-debian-etch. Next to last point is firewall configuration by ipmasq but I have installed shorewall. This is content of I89tproxy.rul file: #!/bin/sh # # redirect http requests to non-local hosts to the transparent proxy # GPL 2.0 or later (C) 2004 Johannes Martin <jmartin@notamusica.com> # 1. do not redirect http requests to localhost case $MASQMETHOD in i...

Domain logon from behind proxy...
I think this has been addressed a few times, but without quite satisfactory results. I have a private subnet behind an NAT proxy server (IPMASQ), and a public subnet on the other side with the NT PDC on the public. (Using both NetBEUI & TCP/IP). The PDC will change later, but currently I'm trying to find out how this all works before I do that. I'm trying to make a client machine on the private side use only TCP/IP, no NetBEU...

Bandwidth limiting a MASQed network.
Hi! I just recently entered the wonderful world of the so called "advanced routing" and decided to try and limit the bandwidth of a MASQed network here and ended up in trouble :(. The setup is (as far as I can tell) pretty straightforward. eth0 is connected to the "real" network with a proper IP, and eth2 is 192.168.10.x (the MASQed network). All of it is basicly right out of

passthru
Question: Is there a method to allow NT logons to 'passthru' a Samba system??? It is necessary for me to hide a number of Win95 systems behind a linux system running ipmasq. All of that works o.k., but, for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to avoid having logon scripts run twice. I have placed the scripts in appropriate places on the linux system, thinking that logon would be handled there. And they are. But then the script on the NT server g...

Re: IPMASQ and lock-up of all terminals ---- Sum mary and update
Well, last night, my box was hit again.. same symptoms: All attempts to connect remotely receive a connection, but a login prompt never comes up. When I went to the console and turned on the monitor, I had the login prompt, but written on to the screen was the message IPMASQ: Reverse ICMP: Checksum error from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx So, on this occasion, I thought I would post a summary of the responses I got, and ask a few specific lingering questions. Summary: Some commented on having the same problem until they switched from one distribution to another, or from one versio...

Logging on to the network - one samba, two subnets.
Hi. I have Samba set up to serve W95 PCs. Kids "log in to the network" using their Unix password. Students get their Unix home dir mounted as network drive X: when login is successful. This all happens on IP subnet 192.168.1.1/24 So far, so good. We are thinking about adding another IP subnet - say 192.168.2.1/24. Of course, the two subnets will be connected with a router. It

Seeing two networks with Samba
Hi there, I'm in our dorms at the university, and throughout the dorms we've got a large windows network with shares on everyone's computer and things. (dorm network) Inside our dorm, however, we've got a linux box doing ip masquerading for an internal network. The linux box has 2 ethernet cards, one which talks to the internal network and one which talks to the dorm

Setting up a simple NAT on CentOS 3.5
Well I think this system is back on 3.5. How do I tell? Have not used it in a while... I need a NAT for some quick testing and this box was available. Only a 6gb drive, so I can't install Astaro (which I have licenses for). So is there a simple way to turn on NATing? Should I upgrade to 4.2? This box is behind a firewall, so security risks are not the issue. This time.

NFS and firewall issues
Hi, I have a small home LAN, where one machine (192.168.1.1) connects to the internet via dialup (no DSL here) and shares the connection with IP masquerading. To achieve this, I tried out various recipes found on the internet, and finally put this in /etc/rc.d/rc.local: --8<------ rc.local ------------ #!/bin/sh # # This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts. # You can

Samba problem
Hi, I have a problem connecting my Windows98 to the Samba server. The Linux computer comes up in the "Network Neighborhood" control panel, but when I double click on the icon, W98 asks for a password for the "\\machine name\IPC$" resource. But my password will not me accepted. I have logged in as user "root" with a given password on both computers. When I set

Permissions
Hi Group, I set up samba3.0 to work as ADS-Member-Server. I created a share called /test and chown group to gg_test to it. Access to share works without any problems. I also can add files and directories to this share. When I now make ln -l, the files I added got the group-permissions "Domain Users" and not gg_test, as I expected. Do someone know a solution? Thanks in advance.

FTP Server and IPTables?
I'm having a heck of a time getting vsftpd to work properly. When Iptables are OFF, it works fine, and when iptables is on, it dies. When I try ftp from a command line, here's what the session looks looks like: [root at mylaptop ~]# ftp ftp.server.com Connected to ftp.server.com. 220 Welcome to My Company FTP 530 Please login with USER and PASS. 530 Please login with USER and PASS.

NAT+portfw failure
I have the following forced up mew by evil telco problem: - One IP - Homebrew LAN - portforwarding for some services. - extra PPTP/ppp layer to an internal 10.* network which mutilates DNS answers. Setup: Machine A has ip a.b.c.d (real IP) and is reachable over ADSL with it from the world. It does NAT for an internal LAN 192.168.0.0/24) and has portforwading turned on for some ports (eg 80)
