Test migration (IMAP copy) and INTERNALDATE?
We're trying some migration tests ... from CommuniGate to Dovecot. The migration program does an APPEND into the new mailbox: src>: a0 FETCH 2900 (FLAGS INTERNALDATE RFC822.PEEK) src<: * 2900 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen) INTERNALDATE "29-Aug-2005 18:36:54 +0000" RFC822 {1194157} src<: ) dst>: bAPP APPEND "INBOX" (\Seen) "29-Aug-2005 18:36:54 +0000" {1194157} dst<: + OK It appears to be trying to set the message date... in t...

What INTERNALDATE does dovecot with mbox storage set on a COPY'd message?
...where the change happened? The reason I'm asking is a problem reported on the Gnus imap client in August 2016, where messaged moved by Gnus showed up with the wrong order and/or wrong date in other imap clients. (The reason for the different message ordering was that the other clients use the INTERNALDATE and that was changed to the time of message move when Gnus was used. Gnus use the Date of the source message) Thanks! - Steinar (Gnus user)

receive date wrong in outlook
hi, we migrate from exchange to dovecot. we do it with imapsync. first we try to do it with --syncinternaldates, but this fails on many messages with invalid date, so we drop this option. unfortunately after this those users who use outlook see the received date as the date we do the migration in stead of the real received date. other clients eg webmail, thunderbird etc sees the right date. so my questio...

INTERNALDATE call, timezone randomly changes
...Sent folder has changed between logins. The change is always been by +1 hours or -5 hours. While checking, our developer had a time changed by +2 hours. On refresh it changed back. He poked through the code and it looks like SquirrelMail gets the received date via an IMAP command: A003 FETCH 1:10 (INTERNALDATE FLAGS BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (To Content-Type Subject Date)]) I'm running dovecot 1.1.6, and I'm wondering how that function gets the date and time? If I can isolate the source of the timezone I can try and correct it. The server time shown by "date" is correct and /etc/local...

changing INTERNALDATE or similar
...e stamp in the Maildir folder. I googled around on this and have gathered that this date is coming somewhere from within the dovecot index file. Is there a utility for scanning that so I can ascertain where the date shown in Outlook is coming from? Is there also a utility which would just reset the INTERNALDATE (or whatever it is that Outlook is keying on) to the date in the message on the "Date: ..." line? This issue is not life threatening as I don't use Outlook much, but when I do, it is confusing to not have the "Received" column be meaningful, especially for sorting. Than...

Trash expire plugin
...is purpose, but you could use SQL as well. There's however one problem with it that I could use opinions on. Currently there's no way to know how long a mail has been in a mailbox. There are pretty much 3 ways to handle this: 1) When copying to those Trash/Spam mailboxes the message's INTERNALDATE could be replaced with the current time. That way the INTERNALDATE tells how long the message has been in there. The obvious downside of this is that if the user wants to move the message back to another mailbox, the original INTERNALDATE is lost (INTERNALDATE means the time when the message was...

imap internaldate
...a reference to it in an archived list message from Jul 2003.) Here is the situation: dovecot (dovecot-0.99.10.4) running with an imap server on an mbox system is queried by a local client program, like Mail.app, and is told the "Received" date of the message (presumably sent through INTERNALDATE), however, that date is being passed on in GMT (-0000) instead of the server or client's local time zone (EST -0500, in this case). Maybe it's assumed that the local client will convert this time to the local zone, but no clients I know actually do that. Anyone know how/where to fix...

Problem with INTERNALDATE when the year in localtime and GMT different

The intrenal date of message recieved at 01-Jan-2009 07:17:38 was not display as it received. The protocol log was as followings. FETCH (INTERNALDATE ?01-Jan-2009 07:17:38 -3900? RFC822.SIZE 1597 FLAGS (\Seen) ENVELOP (?Thu, 1 Jan 2009 07:17:38 +0900 (KST)? ? The INTERNALDATE must be ?01-Jan-2009 07:17:38 +0900?, but it was "01-Jan- 2009 07:17:38 -3900". This error may be caused by the bug in utc_offset.c. How do you think?

Re: mail shown throught outlook, shows todays date
...9;ve been testing Dovecot 1.0beta7 to implement IMAP for the first time, and have had a good experience so far. But like Curtis and Brent, I found that Outlook and Outlook Express display "incorrect" dates on messages uploaded via APPEND. That's because they sort messages using INTERNALDATE: wea3 SELECT "Test Folder" pqng UID FETCH 1:* (UID FLAGS RFC822.SIZE BODY.PEEK[HEADER] INTERNALDATE) Some have created scripts to sync file timestamps with "Date" headers, which conflicts with the concept of "INTERNALDATE". Others ask users to add the &quot...

Hardlinks in copy
...ms that (line 185) if MAILDIR_COPY_WITH_HARDLINKS is exported, then copying is attempted by using link. Having problems reading the source / flow of control, I resort to this list. When a file is linked, the mtime is naturally kept on the destination. This gives the destination message the same internaldate as the original. The destination mailbox would then be likely to get an arrival with an earlier internaldate than its newest message. The IMAP protocol says to bump UIDVALIDITY when this happens. Does Dovecot always bump UIDVALIDITY when messages are copied, or is not the mtime used for inte...

Cache fields
Hi, We are using Dovecot with maildir, and the mail client requests flags, internaldate, and uid for all messages on folder open, which on average takes 3 seconds, but for large folders is much longer. It seems like I want mail_cache_fields to include "flags", but which date corresponds to internaldate? date.received? Is UID always cached for messages, or does it have...
