pdf() Export Problem: Circles Interpreted as Fonts from ggplot2 Graphics
Good Evening: I am putting together a large report with plots created in R, V 2.12.0. Most of the plots are created using ggplot2 V0.8.9. I use R's pdf() command to export the plot to a pdf file. I am exporting the plots and attempting to edit the title text in?Inkscape?primarily because ggplot2 does not support superscript or subscript formatting in the title text. For the report I am working on these formats are essential. I am running the R version mentioned above and Inkscape 0.48 on a Windows XP machine with the following system details: OS Name Micros...

PDFs and SVGs containing rasterGrobs don't display correctly in some other software
I've just been trying to post-process some R-created heatmaps using Inkscape, but I can't get them to display correctly in that software. To reproduce: library(grid) r <- as.raster(matrix(runif(25), 5, 5)) pdf("test.pdf") grid.newpage() grid.raster(r, interpolate = FALSE) dev.off() This figure should be a five by five block of grey squares. This is what...

Options for generating editable figures?
...I'm using R to produce figures for people who want to be able to edit the figures directly, and who use PowerPoint a lot. I use a Mac, and I'd appreciate any advice about how to approach this. Here's what I've come up with so far: 1) I can use xfig() and then ask them to install Inkscape to edit the files. Downsides are no transparency and a learning curve with Inkscape. 2) I can do the same as above but with svg() instead of xfig(). But for reasons I don't understand, when I use svg() I can't seem to edit the resulting figures' text objects in Inkscape. 3) I can try...

pdf() device uses fonts to represent points - data alteration?
...end result graphic directly using code (Ex: replace some colors by CMYK versions for color consistency in print). In addition, publishers also often like being able to retouch graphics to ensure fonts consistency or such, and this will be destructive in the case of these pdfs. For example, Inkscape interprets points as squares (more like U+2751 in ZapfDingbats) and Adobe Illustrator does not even recognize the font (substituting AdobePiStd). I tried to embed fonts with embedFonts() but his does not solves the issue with editing (Inkscape produces a kind of star and AI still chokes on...

Problems with points in plots when importing from pdf to an SVG editor
Dear R-users When trying to import graphics from an pdf-file to a Vector graphics editor (I use Inkscape, but i've confirmed the same problem on adobe products), all points in the graphics turn out as "q"s. This example displays the beaviour: pdf(file="points are weird.pdf") plot(1:5) dev.off() When importing the file to inkscape, I get five neatly arranged little "q&quo...

vector graphics/ ungroup and edit in CorelDraw
System: Linux kernel 2.6.15 Ubuntu dapper R version 2.5.1 ESS 5.2.11 on Emacs 21.4.1 ------------------------- Colleagues Having read the posts on producing perfect graphs in R, or using inkscape to edit R graphics output, I have a related question. Lately I am publishing in a journal that is very picky about their graphics formats. It is more efficient for me to get the final picky details of each graph done by our graphics department, who use Windows CorelDraw. The problem is that I h...

vector graphics/ SVG plots via RSvgDevice
...system, as I have done in the past. Then I tried to get the contributed package Cairo to work, but still had issues with libraries that I failed to fix. However, the upgrade had other advantages. Thanks for the push, Brian. I went back to RSvgDevice and produced nice SVG plots that imported into Inkscape and could be edited to meet all the fussy journal requirements for my figures. However, both the Inkscape and the plain SVG files did not display properly on conversion from LyX to DVI or PDF, although they look fine in LyX. My work around is to export a bitmap from Inkscape and use this in LyX. Ex...

ggplot: problem with fill option in stat_smooth()
Hi all, I am using ggplot2 and continuing to find it very useful and pretty. However, I am trying to create some graphics for publication that would be included in an MS Word document (not my choice!) in Windows Vista. The problem is that I want to use stat_smooth() to add an fitted linear model line along with its 95% confidence band, but I cannot seem to get the confidence band in a format
