SCSI controller setup
I have an IDE based PC running Linux/CentOS4 to which I wish to
attach a scsi dlt. The host controller is an Adaptec AHA3940
something that lspci reports as:
SCSI storage controller: Initio Corporation 360P (rev 02).
I would like to have the system load the driver for this adapter at
boot but I have two problems: 1. I am not sure which driver to use;
and 2. I do not know how to force Linux to load a driver module.
My research to date indicates that the driver module for this

'diskinfo' problem with eSATA device (initio 1611)
...html/produkte/externe_gehaeuse/sata_quickport_pro/index_en.html)
I can read/write to inserted disks, also smartctl works, but my
favourite test doesn't run:
diskinfo -t /dev/ad10 returns:
ioctl(DIOCGMEDIASIZE) failed, probably not a disk.: Inappropriate ioctl
for device
The eSATA bridge is a initio 1611 chip.
I have another external SATA enclosure and there is the same problem.
Any ideas what the reason is and how to "fix"?
Best regards,
-Harry

Can anybody give me a hand with attaching Initio INI-9100 SCSI controller to
FreeBSD 4x ? I couldn't find any information in the Net.
Is this board supported anyway?

really understood, the man page entry for st. Does kudzu handle
this?

Building static HTML help pages in R 2.10.x on Windows
...INSTALL, so I don't quite
understand how the --html arg to R CMD INSTALL can apply either.
So, can anybody point me to an example of either:
(a) how to build the static HTML help pages of all currently
installed packages under Windows,
or, failing that
(b) how to do this on Windows ab initio, from a clean install?
Thanks!

I don't see why that page doesn't cite: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unbiased_estimation_of_standard_deviation

Rf_protect in Rinternals.h
Hello!
I'd like to ask you a question about c (macros):
In Rinternals.h are defined:
a) SEXP Rf_protect(SEXP);
b) #define protect Rf_protect
c) #define PROTECT(s) protect(s)
As far as I understand the calls Rf_protect( x ), protect( x ) and
PROTECT( x ) are all equalent.
So whats the reason that there are 2 macros defined? Why 3 times the
same when 1 distinct function would be

lbfgsb from C/C++
Hi,
I would like to call R's lbfgsb function from my C/C++ code by including
R_ext/Applic.h and linking against libR.
Currently, I am allocating memory for x (and the other input arrays for
lbfgsb) in my C/C++ code via malloc/new. However, this gives a segmentation
fault when executing the program.
I tried to allocate x via PROTECT(x = NEW_NUMERIC(n)); x_p =
NUMERIC_POINTER(x);.
This compiles

varimax implementation in stats package
Hello,
recently I was looking at the implementation of the "varimax" rotation
procedure from the "stats" package and to me it looks quite different
from the algorithm originally suggested by Kaiser in 1958.
The R procedure iteratively uses singular value decompositions of some
matrices whereas Kaiser proposed to iteratively compute rotation
matrices between all pairs of

Build R on Haiku
Hi R-devel,
I'm trying to get R 3.2.1 working on Haiku (an open source OS inspired by
BeOS, not Linux based) on i586. With a few small changes to library paths
and ifdefs I am able to get a seemingly working R binary. The build process
stops with the 'tools' package. The last lines from make are below.
Does anyone have any tips? I'm rather new to debugging at this low level.

This does not seem to be about the R binary, but about dynamically
loaded modules. (All those export lines are non-standard, BTW, and your
output is not from an ab initio build so we don't know e.g. how tools.so
was built.) The meat is
