ess settings
Dear R users, I downloaded an ess-5.2.2 package and hope to use emacs as front to work with R. I modified ~/.emacs and start R by M-x R. But I found when I quited the R session, it still asked me to save the work space or not. I added inferior-R-args with "--save" args. But it seemed that it had no effect. Can you tell me how to pass the arguments other than --no-readline to R. Thanks a lot. Below is the part for ess settings. (setq load-path (cons "~/.emacs.d/lisp/ess-5.2.2/lisp" load-path)) (require ...

Error in for-loop

My aim is to calculate thresholds for each weather station. superior <- NULL inferior <- NULL LC <- NULL LF <- NULL for (i in 3:6){ superior[i] <- 23+(datos.mx1[i]-23)*0.33; inferior[i] <- 18+(datos.min[i]-18)*0.33; } #Until here everything is ok, but the next loop issues an error. I must multiply the results of each weather station with a constant. for (i in 3:6)...

target doesn't allow inferior mailboxes
Using Seamonkey as my email client, and IMAP to check mail. If I create a new IMAP folder, and then delete it, I get the error: The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Target mailbox doesn't allow inferior mailboxes. Tried a google search, didn't really come up with anything. I have rw permissions on /home/awilliam/Mail/* and delete the files fine using rm -rf /home/awilliam/Mail/whatever and editing the folder out of .subscriptions. Any ideas? Sample size estimation for non-inferiority log-rank and Wilcoxon rank-sum tests
Hello Everyone, I'm trying to conduct a couple of power analyses and was hoping someone might be able to help. I want to estimate the sample size that would be necessary to adequately power a couple of non-inferiority tests. The first would be a log-rank test and the second would be a Wilcoxon rank-sum test. I want to be able to determine the sample size that would be necessary to test for a 3 day difference in median recovery time between 2 groups of cancer patients. Both of these tests are infeasible usi...

Non-inferiority log-rank test
Hi Group, I'm looking for a method to calculate sample size for a non-inferiority survival analysis. Initially I've used cpower() of Hmisc, switching the roles of type-I and type-II errors, as cpower() assumes no treatment difference as the null hypothesis. Now, I would like to introduce event rate difference under the null-hypothesis, and calculate sample size according...

Sweave and Xemacs on Windows2000?
Hallo! Trying to configure Xemacs to work with .snw files on windows 2000. Tried to do it how it is described in the FAQ for Sweaves. When starting xemacs with and Snw file *ESS* buffer contains hundrets of lines and the few last ones. (ess-loop-timeout . 500000) (inferior-ess-primary-prompt . ^) (inferior-ess-secondary-prompt . ^) (comint-use-prompt-regexp-instead-of-fields . t) (inferior-ess-start-file) (inferior-ess-start-args . inferior-SAS-args-temp) (ess-local-process-name)) And no syntax highlighting in the *.Snw buffer ?? How to insert a dummy NIC
...ces without assigning explicit addresses to all other devices in the configuration? Things I also tried (and found inadequate): * Using "generic ethernet connection" for the dummy NICs. Close, but requires extra permissions for accessing /dev/net/tun, and technically feels a little inferior to using a peerless network device like above. * TCP tunnel server. Even more inferior, does not require extra permissions but leaves even looser ends (listening sockets). Also, the RelaxNG grammal does not let me specify a model for this interface type, so maintaining bus order with respe...

Test for stochastic dominance, non-inferiority test for distributions
Dear R-Users, Is anyone aware of a significance test which allows demonstrating that one distribution dominates another? Let F(t) and G(t) be two distribution functions, the alternative hypothesis would be something like: F(t) >= G(t), for all t null hypothesis: F(t) < G(t), for some t. Best wishes, Matthias PS. This one would be ok, as well: F(t) > G(t), for all t null

feature or bug on delete?
RFC 3501 mentions this: The DELETE command MUST NOT remove inferior hierarchical names. For example, if a mailbox "foo" has an inferior "foo.bar" (assuming "." is the hierarchy delimiter character), removing "foo" MUST NOT remove "foo.bar". It is an error to attempt to delete a name that has...

help went away from top emacs window :-(
I've recently updated to R 2.4 and have noticed that when I type ?help.on.something in ESS from within emacs, the old text help doesn't show up in the "other" (other being the horizontally split windows) window. Instead the windows chm help file pops up. Is there any way to get R to revert back to the old "simple text based help in the top window" help? I couldn't

most pointless mentioning/advertising of a format in a film i've ever seen
In the recent muppets christmas film, god (played by whoopi goldberg- or howevr u spell her name), mentioned converting her entire album collection (every album ever recorded. ever) to mp3 files. Now that is the most pointless use of advertising the inferior mp3 format i've ever seen. Now that we've started covering the use of vorbis in games, anyone spotted any reference (no matter how obscure/blatant) to ogg vorbis in films?

--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://...

Question about "target is inferior" type of message
We're converting UW-IMAP users here to dovecot. Some of them have seen the error message issued when Thunderbird clients try to delete folders and I understand what's going on (from previous postings) that Dovecot doesn't support mbox subfolders within folders. What puzzles me is that many of these users already have folders within folders (I've found typically 2 levels of

Installing R and an editor on a USB drive
...r rights. I have found out that Emacs (Vincent Goulet's Emacs for Windows Modified http://vgoulet.act.ulaval.ca/en/ressources/emacs/windows) can be installed without administrator rights. There is, however, one problem. I have edited the site-start.el file and adjusted the path variable: (setq inferior-R-program-name "G:/r-2.12.0/bin/i386/rterm.exe") since R is installed on the G drive. Everything works if R is on G, but when changing the computer, R is usually on another drive and Emacs cannot find it. Is it possible to handle this case? XEmacs for Windows requires that the init.el f...

ESS 5.2.7 released
..., strings are not wrapped anymore. * ESS[S] (incl. Changes/New Features in 5.2.5: * ESS[R]: `C-c C-q' or `Quit S' from the menu now should work (again and less klunkily) and do not append `-exited' to the buffer name....
