Fedora change that will probably affect RHEL

False. OS X by default runs only signed binaries, and if they come
from the App Store they run in a sandbox. User gains significant
security with this, and are completely unaware of it. There is no
inconvenience.

...tore (and that could be for
arbitrary reasons, including political ones). This is, of course, the
case to a more limited degree with CentOS and signed packages, since
packages can be removed from repositories and installation of packages
by default requires signed packages (but it's not as inconvenient, nor
is it as secure, as the OS X model of only allowing signed binaries to
run). For that comparison, repository = store.

Indeed.
I've fixed a minor problem with the OS upgrade, and CVS services seem to
be working again. You should be able to checkout and make commits
(provided you have commit access, of course) using the LLVM CVS
repositories.
The llvm.org DNS entry hasn't been updated yet to handl...

[LLVMdev] Downtime for llvm.org
Dear LLVM Developers/Users,
We will be performing some upgrades on llvm.org on Monday, June 24. The
upgrades are scheduled to begin around 11:00 am Central Time and should
take 3-4 hours.
During most of this time, llvm.org services (LLVM web page, CVS
repository, etc) will either be slow or unavailable. The machine will
also be undergoing an IP address change due to some recent network

Samba - Problem Connecting PCs
Hi,
I want to setup Samba as a new PDC. I followed the instructions on IBM's
site (http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/esdd/tutorials/samba/index.html)
The problem I currently have is that Windows 9X boxes can't connect to the
Mandrake 9.1 Bamboo box.
However, I can make connections on localhost to localhost using smbclient
//localhost/share -U username
I've tried a couple of different

R command history -- can it be like Matlab's?
Hi all,
In R GUI window, if you use "up" and "down" key, you will be able to recall
the previous and next command that has been used and stored in the command
history cache.
But there is one inconvenience:
In Matlab, you can type the first a few characters of the command that you
previously used,
and then press ?up" key, you will be able to get to that previous

FLAC format
...the
system using the RIFF file format. In this ACM codec's implementation, all
data, including the "fLaC" marker and the metadata blocks, is placed by the
Audio Codec Manager encoder's GUI in the RIFF's data area. Actually, I
couldn't find any other way for doing this. The inconvenient is that the
files written this way can't be read by any other than the Audio Codec
Manager.
I have two suggestions to solve this problem: the reference decoder could be
modified to understand the RIFF structure or the FLAC format could be
changed to meet the RIFF format. The first solution'...

b. Most network monitoring software, because putting en0 into promiscuous mode violates the Gatekeeper rules. (Wireshark, etc.) Some App Store networking software (e.g. RubberNet) manages to get around this by offering a second app download from the author?s web page. You don?t call that inconvenient?
c. Low-level utilities, such as Karabiner and Scroll Reverser, since they also need to bypass the sandbox guidelines to do their job.
On top of all that, to bypass Gatekeeper, you need to right-click an app and disable Gatekeeper for it on the first launch. Another inconvenience.

Installing packages into updated R
A minor inconvenience in updating an R installation is remembering which
packages were installed previously. Has anyone written a script to
inspect a previous installation, then get & install the same packages
into the new installation?

Hello all,
I wish to run todolist 6.3.8 (http://www.codeproject.com/KB/applications/todolist2.aspx) on ubuntu 11.10.

winetricks vcrun2008
winetricks vcrun6
Which installed all of the components.
When I went to run todolist.exe, it started fine

Inconvenient behavior of as.data.frame() for lists without names
Hi all,
I ran into a small issue when converting a list of vectors to a data
frame. The Issue I'm having is described by the snippet below:
#########################################################
# Convert a list of vectors into a data.frame
strlen = 256
s.long.a = paste( letters[1+(0:strlen %% 26)], collapse="")
s.long.b = paste( letters[1+(strlen:0 %% 26)],

numbers and decimal points
I have a question for our European readers: how common is it to use
commas as decimal points in spread-sheet and statistics applications?
Is it an inconvenience to require that all data use a period as decimal point?
(i.e., 3.14159 rather than 3,14159).
We're trying to make our program as foolproof as possible, and would
prefer not to give users a chance to have commas as both decimal
