Internet Explorer 6 Setup & A

An interesting development:
Running it from the home directory didn't help, but
running it, letting it fail, then running it again
works (regardless of location). The installer
finishes ok, and places all the files in Program
Files/Internet Explorer.

wine iexplore white screen of death
On a fresh Ubuntu, sudo apt-get install wine
wine iexplore yields a white screen of death with a title bar for Wine.
I tried winecfg and tweaking settings, and I can get a desktop with IE WSOD again, so no real progress.
The shell outputs a ton of errors/debug info, pasted below...
What have I done wrong?

How to run Internet Explorer 6 from existing Windows instalation under Fedora 3 (with wine)
Hi all,
Sorry if I ask something that is answered already, but I am new to this
list.
I need to run IE for testing purposes (unfortunately too many people are
still using Windows and I need to make my web pages Windows compatible).
I have an existing Windows installation, but I do not want to reboot
just to see if a small change in a web page is shown correctly in IE.
I have installed wine, but

I downloaded wine 0.9.12 yesterday, and saw the news about iexplore.exe
being included. So, I just had to try it. It downloaded the Mozilla
ActiveX control and installed it, but then after the installer
completed, I get the following errors:

IEXPLORE in wine/cvs works!
Hello...
Just yesterday, I decided to give the current wine in cvs another try (I
was using the monthly version that came out a week ago before that) --
and it seems thing's gotten better as IEXPLORE.EXE *works* (it did in
the monthly version, but I hadn't seen it run successfully on wine-cvs
before)

build in iexplore.exe
Hi
I want to start the buil-in iexplore.exe. I created a new .wine
directory and typed
#wine iexplore.exe
Then it tries to download the Mozilla ActiveX PlugIn and this is where
the problem starts:
The download window shows, but it doesn't start the download.
I am sitting behind a proxy server (no authorisation needed), and the
proxy is setup correctly:

Installing wine on an Asus EEEPC 901
I am trying to install wine on an Asus EEEPC 901. Every thing goes as
expected until I receive the following FATAL error.
What is the problem and what can I do about it?
If I then try winecfg I receive the error messages further down.
winefile appears to behave correctly but iexplorer remains blank even
after Gecko is installed. Notepad appears to work ok.

wine's iexplore: application protocols ?
I have a question, some applications register their own "custom protocols", instead of http: it can be for example skype: or skp: .
Google SketchUp for example uses skp: to communicate between javascript in webdialogs and its Ruby scripting language. At the moment, I have installed Microsoft's IE8 (otherwise I haven't got it to work). For various reasons I would prefer
