After being imported from an SPSS data set, these variables are implemented
as R factors. My dependent variables are measures of ideology and party
affiliation; the variables that identify the groups are factors known to be
correlated to political ideology for which I wish to control; and my
independent variables focus on sources of news and information. My
hypothesis is that the change in ideology we have observed over the period

[RFC] One or many git repositories?
Hi Mehdi,
I really like your idea of having a few "projected" git repositories
(i.e. capture all commits that touch llvm/ into llvm.git, all that
touch clang/ to clang.git etc.). I think it should solve our problem
of llvm-forks-with-downstream changes very nicely (I think we won't
have to do anything, as you said). I still want to sleep on it to see
if I can spot any issues.

What do you think about commercial applications for Rails?
Hello all,
I''m a RoR fan. I''ve read some RoR books, and I''m starting to use RoR for
commercial proyects.
As I use RoR more and more, I think about inexistent tools that would be
great to have when developing applications in RoR. For example: an IDE
with more features than RadRails. So then I think "hey! you could
produce one of these tools".
Some of these

Overdispersion in a GLM binomial model
Hello,
The share of concurring votes (i.e. yes-yes and no-no) in total votes
between a pair of voters is a function of their ideological distance (index
continuous on [1,2]).
I show by other means that the votes typically are highly positively
correlated (with an average c=0.6). This is because voters sit together and
discuss the issue before taking a vote, but also because they share common

OT: "The Ignorance of Crowds" (was: OT Slightly: )
...says "When you move from the bazaar to the
cathedral, it?s best to leave your democratic ideals behind."
But treating open/closed source/projects as a pure dichotomy of two
extremes of openness is a purely ideological exercise: and one that
favors the cathedral, the very institution of ideology rather than
practice. There are many degrees of openness, even just in the
categories of the source code and of the project management. There are
degrees of openness in the readability, writeability and executeability
in each of those categories, to extend a metaphor. And there are other
abilities,...

web-based playlist manager
...recommend a web-based playlist
manager for ices/icecast. The one I've got in mind would take requests,
play random tracks in the absence of requests, keep a very limited history
and look-ahead...
This must have been done before, right? If not, I'll take a stab at
writing one.

[common PATCH 0/3] SELinux_relabel: relabel only if enforcing (RHBZ#1828952)
Continuation/rework of:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-May/msg00020.html
This is my approach, as I explained here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1828952#c4
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-May/msg00035.html
IOW: do not attempt to relabel if the guest is not enforcing, as it is
either useless or may fail; few words more are in the comments of patch
#3.

new intrusion detection system
Hello to all,
I have implemented a new type of intrusion detection system for my Master
thesis. I would like to announce this information, in case anyone would be
interested in this research.
The IDS system is designed as a kernel module for FreeBSD 5.2. It is inspired
by the SpamAssassin program, which detects spam by applying a set of tests to
every email message and counting a sum of

Enabling statistics in release builds / static constructors
I don't agree with an ideological "burn and remove all the globals" stance. For one thing that means heavy rewriting (we would need to move all the Statistic variable into classes somewhere, pass around way more contexts). I am NOT volunteering for that part of work.

looping through tasks
Hi,
I'm moving (slowly) to R from STATA.
I often have need to move through a set of tasks across a series of years.
In this case, you can see that I'm mimicking -reshape- in STATA, but I'm
less interested in the
task than in programming R.

online service to host/share theora&vorbis encoded ogg files
...l have time and file size limitations. wikimedia doesn't work for me either. i found a service called wikiupload.com but it doesn't seem a trustable service.
shortly i need a service to host/share big theora & vorbis encoded ogg files without time limit that also supports open source ideology. i will share the links of 3 projects i have already done with you as soon as their websites are ready.
thanx for any input

I don’t believe it is any more work (except the registry infrastructure) to do than you strawman proposal.
