intended login protocol for icecast2
Hi, I just updated my CVS copy of icecast2, and saw that the default login protocol now is HTTP basic authentication, which ICE/1.0 still selectable through the config file (by inserting an <icelogin>1</icelogin> element). My question is: what is the intended future login protocol for icecast2? Will ICE/1.0 be phased out in favour of HTTP basic auth? <p>Akos --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsub...

<icylogin> ???
...namp3 Oddcast2? Winamp3? If I remember correctly, there's no Oddcast2, and it's also a Winamp 2.xx plugin - no idea if it works with WA3. > but where do you put the <icylogin> </icylogin>. > I guess i have to turn it to 0 cause i use icecast2 . The correct option is <icelogin>, and its usage is not recommended and undocumented. The current version of Oddcast DSP lets you choose between Shoutcast/Icecast/Icecast2. If you leave out <icelogin> in your Icecast2 configuration (the default), you have to tell Oddcast DSP to connect to an Icecast2 server (that's h...

ICE login is deprecated. I don't intend to remove it in the immediate future - but as you may have noticed, the <ic...

'ice_login' not in icecast.xml ?
Hi: The authentication for the xml stats is as follows: username: source password: <the password you've put in the config file> The icelogin item is to allow older style source logins (i.e. not the http authentication that was implemented a number of weeks ago). this login is deprecated, so it's been deliberately left out of the XML configuration example. icecast on port 80 NOT as root
This may seem simple but I've looked all over and come up with nothing. I'm interested in running Icecast 1.3.12 on port 80 to get around the firewall issue. Obviously it's not prudent to run Icecast at root so I'm wondering is there any way to safely run Icecast on port 80 using either setuid or port redirection? Has anyone accomplished this and if so, how'd you do it?

Icecast2 Configuration
If you are getting "login with invalid or missing password" it means one of a few things : * you have not selected Icecast2 as the server type in the DSP config * you are not using the most current versions of both icecast2 and oddcast (http://www.oddsock.org/icecast2 for that) * you are using the most current oddcast, but have <icylogin>1</icylogin> in your icecast2
